Essential Functions The Department of Gerontology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for an instructor position in gerontology to begin August 2025. A master’s degree or PhD in Gerontology or a related discipline by the time of appointment is required. Teaching responsibilities include three undergraduate courses per semester in gerontology on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus as well as online. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching and an ability to work collegially with faculty in other disciplines in the University of Nebraska system. The instructor will be responsible for teaching introduction to gerontology, an upper-level course in gerontology in the fall and spring (Programs and Services for Older Adults), and other upper-level courses. The instructor will also be the gerontology advisor for UNL students and manage the gerontology certificate and minor programs on the UNL campus. Additionally, the instructor will advise the gerontology club and manage the gerontology ambassador program, providing marketing of the program at various UNL and community functions and activities.

Additional Duties The Department of Gerontology provides programming at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students are enrolled in our BS, MA, PhD degree programs, as well as in our certificate and minor programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We offer courses on campus and online at both levels, with the central office located in Omaha. This position is based on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Gerontology or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level in areas that would support or extend the existing gerontology curriculum.
  • Experience or interest in developing and/or teaching online courses, incorporating service learning and community engagement events for undergraduate students.
  • Working knowledge or demonstrated expertise supporting diverse, multicultural, or underserved groups.

  • Regularly sits; may stand, walk. See, hear, speak and use of hands.
Work Environment
  • Regularly works indoors. Noise level is low to moderate.
