Cafeteria Worker

Position Summary
The Cafeteria Worker prepares and serves cafeteria food and maintains the kitchen, serving, and dining area in sanitary condition.

Specific Responsibilities

• Prepares all menu items using established Aquinas and Health Department policies and procedures.
• Assures presentation of all menu items adhere to established standards.
• Provides excellent service to cafeteria customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
• Serves food in proper pre-determined portion sizes.
• Serves food that is the correct serving temperature and quality. Any substandard quality food must be brought to the attention of the Director of Food Services.
• Sets up, maintains and breaks down serving area and kitchen.
• Receives deliveries when assigned and rotates incoming and outgoing inventory.
• Cleans cafeteria including kitchen and serving area continually.
• Utilizes commercial kitchen equipment in the preparation of menu items.
• Monitors food at serving areas for fresh appearance and proper holding temperatures.
• Assists in serving food on the service line.
• Washes dishes and utensils, as well as cleaning the food service area during and after service.
• Maintains appearance of all equipment and serving counters.
• Coordinates and insures adherence to safety and sanitary procedures in the food preparation area.
• Works collaboratively with colleagues and has a teamwork mentality.
• Operates cash register as directed.

Other Responsibilities

• Requires a varying schedule including occasional nights and weekends to support events (ie. concessions, off-site catering, snack bar, as business dictates).
• Have a reliable form of transportation.
• Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity.

Knowledge and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior cafeteria or food industry experience preferred, but not required.
• Required to take food handling course.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Stand for long periods of time.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
• Frequently lift, move, carry, push, or pull objects ranging from 30-50 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
