As a member of the Product Management team, the Product Specialist – JXI is responsible for researching, creating, loading and maintain product and cross reference information into various systems and databases to support locally sourced, special order, stock numbered and competitor’s products. JXI is our cross-reference database which helps industry professionals quickly identify and secure products for their day-to-day work.

The new Product Specialist will work with suppliers and internal teams to contribute to an industry leading cross-reference database and cutting edge tools on the Johnstone website. This position has a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office and 2 days remote) following an initial onboarding and training period where the schedule is traditional in-office.

Position responsibilities:

  • Maintains a cross-reference database focusing on OEM parts, aftermarket parts and equipment lines utilizing SQL, Excel, etc.
  • Establishes contacts with Vendors and builds favorable, beneficial relationships with these individuals. Solicits and receives files from vendors. Ensures information accuracy and updates existing cross reference database.
  • Maintains current technical product knowledge by reading trade magazines, researching competitors, and obtaining other market information. Accumulates and maintains a library of resources including competitive catalogs and flyers, current Vendor catalogs, etc.
  • Makes changes in existing product specifications, such as specification changes or discontinued items. Ensures that changes are documented, filed, and communicated to all stakeholders (i.e. Data Management, Stores, Advertising, Accounts Payable). Completes, files, and forwards necessary paperwork.
  • Makes use of “Search” results to fill in missing data to better the overall Web and JXI Cross Reference experience.

Position requirements:

  • Technical knowledge of HVAC products and markets of assigned product lines is preferred but not a must if applicant has strong computer skills and is willing to learn about HVAC products and markets.
  • Strong database skills and a working knowledge of SQL.
  • Skill in manipulating computer databases to find and organize information.
  • Skill in resolving problems: asking appropriate questions, identifying problem source, devising alternative actions, and arriving and implementing the optimum solution.
  • Skill in managing projects: establishing objectives, securing resources, creating timelines, scheduling activities and resources, and evaluating project status.
  • Ability to recognize inconsistencies/errors in numerical data (number recognition).
