Position Highlights
The Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine invites applications for the position of Laboratory Coordinator I. This position will work as part of a team to provide hands-on experience in both clinical patient interaction and research laboratory settings. This person will perform laboratory tasks in a research setting related to molecular biology, pathology, and tissue biobanking. This person will also have direct patient contact and be responsible for obtaining consent for the biobanking of specimens under an existing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist and coordinate biobanking activities, such as sample logistics, sample processing, and storage.
- By following lab protocols and SOPs, monitors equipment to ensure specimen and reagent stability and ensures documentation is complete and organized.
- Works with supervisor and other laboratory staff to design, develop, and adapt technical procedures, equipment, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintains organized laboratory records.
- Perform pathology/histology techniques such as embedding, sectioning, and immunohistochemistry, and biobanking techniques such as sample processing and cell culture with detailed record-keeping.
- Performs and records routine equipment maintenance and calibration for sophisticated scientific equipment.
- Participate in lab meetings and other scientific discussions to assist with judgment of data findings and research methods while participating in discussions regarding future research goals.
- Communicates regular status updates in writing or orally.
- Provide research support to the lab including stocking and ordering of supplies.
- Collaborate with team to write, edit, and/or present abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications as well as scientific presentations (poster or platform).
- Obtain consent for the biobanking of specimens under an existing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol.
- Maintain detailed records of research results, data acquisition, data and statistical analysis of studies conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Demonstrated track record for scientific writing and presentation.
- Proficiency in molecular methods such as nucleic acid isolation from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues and gene expression profiling, particularly utilizing the NanoString nCounter platform and related nSolver software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Quality management methods in a laboratory setting.
- Database management skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in laboratory science or healthcare delivery; OR
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant experience in laboratory science or healthcare delivery.
- Clinical trial research experience, especially in hematologic malignancies.
- Previous experience with histology techniques.
- Experience working with STEM students in an advisory role in a laboratory setting.
- Biohazard, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and HIPAA compliance certification, or willing to obtain upon hire.
