E-Billing Supervisor

This position can be based in any of our California offices. The offices are as follows: Downtown Los Angeles, Century City, Orange County, Del Mar, San Diego, Silicon Valley, or San Francisco. There is only one opening.
- This position has a remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office on an as needed basis.
The E-Billing Supervisor is a member of Sheppard Mullin’s Billing Department, leading the E-Billing Team. This position reports directly to the Director of Billing Operations. This senior-level role focuses on ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across billing processes while fostering team development and driving strategic improvements. The ideal candidate will work closely with clients, attorneys, and senior management to resolve billing issues, oversee system integrations, and enhance workflow productivity. Responsibilities:
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 12 e-billing professionals.
- Foster professional growth and promote best practices across the team.
- Oversee implementation and management of e-billing setups for insurance and regular client matters in Aderant, BillBlast, and e-billing vendor portals.
- Communicate with clients and attorneys to clarify billing requirements and resolve e-billing issues promptly
- Serve as administrator for user and client/matter setups within connected e-billing platforms and BillBlast.
- Develop and implement strategies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and ensure compliance with client guidelines.
- Submit support tickets for invoice processing issues and client specific configurations.
- Provide comprehensive reporting and updates to senior firm management.
- Collaborate with internal departments to identify and resolve billing issues and inefficiencies.
- Train new and existing staff on e-billing procedures and best practices.
- Support team members during absences and maintain operational continuity.
- Perform quality control on e-billing submissions to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Manage client onboarding, matter setup, timekeeper approvals, and budget monitoring.
- Generate and edit LEDES files to meet client specifications.
- Address and resolve urgent client requests and billing issues.
- Supervise a team of 12 e-billing professionals
- Hiring, training, performance evaluations, and fostering team development.
- Approximately 40-50% of the role involves supervising team activities and addressing workflow challenges.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of billing experience using Aderant
- 7+ years of electronic billing experience with various e-billing vendors (e.g., Legal Tracker, CounselLink, Tymetrix 360, etc.).
- 3+ years of managerial experience overseeing billing teams
- Extensive experience with BillBlast and insurance-related e-billing.
- Proven leadership skills with a focus on team development and process optimization.
- Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Excellent responsiveness to communications
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required:
- 5+ years of experience using Aderant
- 5+ years of experience using BillBlast
- 7+ years of experience with a multitude of e-billing vendor platforms
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Advanced typing skills (60+ WPM)
- You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.
- You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
- Overtime will be required on occasion as the workload demands.
Less than 10%, minimal travel may be required for training and/or department/firm meetings.
California: The pay range for this position is $56.00 to $67.00 per hour.
