Boston IVF currently has a position available at *Boston IVF’s NEW Providence, RI Center *for a *Per Diem Surgical Scrub Tech.* *4 - 5 days - One (1) week per month - Occasional Saturdays*

*Position Summary:*
Surgical technologists are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. Surgical technologists report directly to the nurse manager and works under the supervision of the surgeon to ensure that the operating room or environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
*Job Performance:*
Surgical technologists handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during procedures. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
*Duties are as follows:*
Develops and maintains professional level of knowledge of all surgical services and procedures performed at Boston IVF
Obtains and checks supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
Opens sterile supplies and sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
Scrubs, gowns, gowns himself/herself, gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants, and helps in draping sterile field.
Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during
Maintains highest standard of sterile technique and properly cares for specimens.

Prepares sterile dressings and assists in securing dressings after incision closure.
Assists in cleaning, wrapping/packaging, and terminal sterilization of instruments
Assists in cleaning of room and preparing for next patient.
Assists in maintaining OR and anesthesia supply levels.
*Communication:*
Maintains open communication with all team members in order to provide the highest level of care for surgical patients.
Works in a constructive manner with fellow team members to promote a cohesive work environment.
Interacts with patients and their families in a professional manner and conveys a positive company image.
Maintains consistent, open communication with the Nurse Manager regarding patient care and any other work-related issues.
Staff Development:
Will participate in continuing education seminars throughout the year.
Will act as a preceptor to new employees, demonstrating appropriate behaviors and skills.
Will support fellow team members in their clinical practice and with patient care.
*Physical Requirements:*
Essential functions an individual must be able to perform including, but not limited to:
Assists in decontamination of operating room following surgery including proper disposal of linen, trash, and sharps and decontamination of instruments and equipment.
Frequent lifting, carrying, reaching, standing, walking, and bending required in daily patient care activities.
Frequent pushing and pulling of over one hundred pounds, (i.e. stretchers/chairs occupied by a patient, emergency carts, anesthesia carts, etc.) and daily stocking of supplies ranging from less than one pound to fifty pounds.
Ability to exit building and assist with safe transport of patients in the event of an emergency.
*Environmental:*
Constantly working inside.
Frequent mechanical and electrical hazards.
Frequent exposure to anesthesia gases, fumes, dust, and odors.
