Director of Nursing Clinical Operations : Role specific scope of responsibility
The scope of responsibility and accountability for the director continuously evolves to meet the demands of the practice setting. The following responsibilities may also vary based on the identified needs of Patient care Services.
1. Directs and coordinates daily activities of supervised employees to meet all standards of patient care within designated clinical areas as established by hospital and external regulatory agencies.
2. Collaborates with administrative leadership to develop strategic and operational plans for assigned clinical service line / departments. Communicates and evaluates effects of same.
3. Manages personnel activities for direct reports including provision of counseling when necessary while providing leadership in human resource development.
4. Develops, communicates and administers care delivery models and facilitates ongoing evaluation of such models.
5. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit, and retain future nurse administrators.
6. Facilitates the conduct, dissemination, and utilization of research to ensure a formalized evidenced based policy and procedure compliance.
7. Participates in assigned department budgetary development and is responsible for fiscal compliance.
8. Maintains interface with department and other appropriate personnel to coordinate clinical activities, ensure appropriate staffing levels, and monitor patient, visitor and staff safety issues.
9. Develop and support unit based shared governance to ensure that nursing practice is governed by professional nurses.
• Graduation from an accredited Nursing program with a degree / diploma in Nursing. BSN required, completed or enrolled in a MSN or other masters in healthcare administration program.
• Current CT licensure.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting to include at least 3 years of increasing nursing responsibility and leadership.
(In lieu of above, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.)
• preferred professional nursing specialty certification within 2 years of hire
• Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
• Willingness to learn and implement a variety of teaching methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to positively motivate others.
• Proven analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Practice within the Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators
