*PRIMARY COUNSELOR (Full-time and Part-Time positions available)*

*GENERAL DESCRIPTION:*

This position entails facilitating group therapy, didactic lectures and individual counseling sessions. Individuals in this position are expected to maintain records, which drive the treatment services and interventions provided to persons served in the clinical environment. Recordkeeping entails treatment planning, progress notes, biopsychosocial and reports to supervising agencies.

Candidates applying for this position must be experienced in counseling theories, the Stages of Change and any additional evidence-based practices utilize in the treatment of substance use disorders. The ideal candidate will be required to participate in team meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, on-going mandatory and license specific trainings. Individuals in this position must have a working knowledge of ASAM-PPC-2 (LOCI), and the DSM 5 criteria.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, carrying out tasks in the therapeutic care, treatment and rehabilitation of chemically dependent persons, and/or mental health problems, providing, facilitating in and supervising individual and group counseling; working with other social agencies and managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons and gatekeepers in planning to meet the needs of clients and assist them in utilizing these resources; preparing treatment plans, histories, writing letters, making reports and keeping records; encouraging, reassuring and giving needed support; recommending educational and occupational training and/or possibilities for placement. Providing assessment and evaluations based on appropriate criteria.

Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties. Work is reviewed by clinical and management personnel through an evaluation of the completion of assignments through independent and group supervision.

1. Continue special training in areas of licensure (CADC/LCADC) designated by the Supervisor.

2. Provides regular individual, group, and lecture counseling sessions for all clients as required by regulatory agencies (DMHAS, Drug Curt, parole etc.) and mandated direct service time standards.

3. Records and documents clinical interventions in guest file/chart daily as per DMHAS regulations.

4. Responsible for submitting timely reports, Initial ASAM, continuum of stays and discharges where appropriate.

5. Responsible for documenting all contacts in the client chart in the form of pre-admission forms, record of services and tracking forms.

6. Keeps up-to-date records such as Comprehensive Treatment Plan, Bio Psychohistory, evaluations, etc.

7. Completes client case records such as the DSM-IV diagnosis (impressions), individual & group notes, aftercare, discharge summaries, disciplinary reports, learning experiences etc. in the most current format according to the established guidelines.

8. Provide crisis intervention and referrals for clients in cooperation with the medical department and established agency guidelines.

9. Insure proper collection of urine samples through communications with appropriate Director(s).

10. Attend, participate, and when necessary, facilitate case consultations, special events, such as seminars, lectures, retreats, trips, workshops, etc.

11. Initiates “discharge summaries” & "aftercare plan" during the preliminary sessions with guests and closes client charts completing all required documentation (closing summary, follow-up etc.)

12. Responsible for special reports and/or projects which may involve case consultation with other counseling and direct care staff.

13. Demonstrated role modeling of pro social behaviors.

14. Employee will ensure professional and appropriate treatment and interactions with clients at all times.

15. Be available for weekend duty and/or evening duty.

16. Responsible for full client case- load and accountability procedures that require verification of interventions.

17. Attend all staff meetings and may be case consult manager for treatment team.

18. Support and demonstrate adherence to profession’s Code of Ethics.

19. Responsible for maintaining appropriate professional certificates and credentials.

20. Responsible for aftercare and related planning transitional living or advanced care.

21. Can moderate special groups such as family meetings, workshops or presentations.

22. Responsible for orientation of new staff members when the Clinical Supervisor is not available. (if applicable)

23. Attend functions and/or meetings when the Clinical Supervisor is not available. (if applicable)

24. All other duties that may be assigned by the Director, Supervisor or designee.

* Advanced knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at Armada of PA Treatment Center.
* Advanced knowledge of the bio psychosocial characteristics and manifestations of chemical dependency and/or mental illness.
* Advanced knowledge of individual and group behavior and the effective ways of working with people to produce on-going recovery.
* Advanced ability to work effectively with people, aid them in adjusting to their specific problems.
* Advanced ability to identify the needs of clients and to gain their confidence and cooperation in assisting them to obtain their goals.
* Advanced ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other members of staff, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public.
* Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds.
* Significant knowledge of facility and/or levels, their primary functions and an understanding of why the residents move from one level to another.
* Significant knowledge and experience in facilitating groups, seminars, meetings and/or specialized therapeutic groups and activities.
* Basic knowledge of supervisory and training techniques and a demonstrated ability to carry out such responsibilities.
