*POSITION PURPOSE:*

The Nurses are responsible for all Nursing related services for each patient. The Nurses provide all services under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and Medical Director. The Nurses must only perform duties that fall within the scope of their license. The Nurses may be responsible for providing assessments, screenings, medication administration and reconciliation, entry of orders by the Providers, rendering life-saving measures, and other general nursing care.

*POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS*

*1. EDUCATION: *Required - Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum of an associate degree in nursing

*2. EXPERIENCE: *Preferred - A minimum of 1-year experience in a chemical dependency/psychiatric setting, preferably in a detox unit and/or inpatient, partial hospitalization, and/or outpatient setting.

*3. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: *Required – License to practice nursing in their respective state (ARNP, RN, LPN/LVN, CNA)

*4. KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING *K n o w l e d g e o f a d d i c t i o n s a n d m e n t a l h e a l t h c o m p l i c a t i o n s .

*PREFERRED AT TIME OF HIRE: *
Knowledge of community health resources that support life improvement in physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health, economic security, employment, positive social and family interdependence, and positive cultural identity.

Knowledge of alcohol and other drugs that includes:
* Alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual.
* Alcohol and addictive drugs and their impact on the family.
* Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and to take appropriate action when necessary.

Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose.

Knowledge of the stages of alcohol and other drug withdrawals and ability to take appropriate action at each stage.

Knowledge of Federal, State, and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including:
* Confidentiality
* Patient Rights
* Professional Code of Ethics
* Discrimination

Knowledge of airborne and blood-borne pathogens (TB, HIV,
AIDS, HB), risk reduction methodologies, and universal precautions.

Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description, which are related to working as a SUD/MH treatment team member.

*SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION*

1. THE NUMBER ONE RESPONSIBILITY IS TO KEEP PATIENTS SAFE AT ALL TIMES.
2. Nurses must ALWAYS only practice within the scope of their license.
3. Contacts the appropriate team member (i.e., Medical Director) with all non-life threatening medical and medication issues to obtain guidance regarding his plan of action for the patient. In the event of a life- threatening emergency, all staff members are authorized to contact emergency services by dialing 911.

4. Responsible for rendering all nursing assessments, evaluations, and consents based on the individuals and level of care where you are stationed.

5. Ensures that all daily documentation and updates needs are completed by the end of the shift.
6. Ensures that all medication inventories and counts are accurate before attesting.
7. Follow all intake procedures, including but not limited to assessments, body checks, medication verification, order/medication entries, and monitoring.
8. Takes verbal orders from the Medical Director or Provider, documents them in the patient record, and carries them out accurately and professionally.
9. Transcribe all Provider medication and protocol orders accurately within the EMR. Nurses must not enter orders or provide medications without an active order.
10. Administer and monitor medications based on best practices, state requirements, and Joint Commission standards.
11. Educate patients prior to administering medications. DO NOT GIVE PATIENTS MEDICATION WITHOUT INFORMING MEDICATION NAME, DOSAGE, AND PURPOSE.
12. Nurses must never give patients medication that does not belong to them unless it is stock medication.
13. Must label medications based on the manufacturer’s requirements (opened, expiration date, etc.).
14. Complete and document all patient safety checks assigned to the nursing team.
15. Facilitate groups assigned to the nursing team.
16. Must always keep medication carts locked, medication rooms locked, and medical materials and supplies secure out of the reach of patients.
17. Complete all logs and inventories based on the department’s policies and procedures.

18. Must understand nursing’s responsibilities during an environmental or medical emergency.
19. Must review emergency preparedness manuals and all medication management policies.
20. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing patients with emotional, psychological, and spiritual support (Professionally).
21. Promotes patient independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching patients to understand their conditions, medications, and self-care requirements, and answering questions.
22. Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
23. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with infection control procedures, rules, and regulations.
24. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
25. Maintaining team continuity by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
26. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
27. Maintains a cooperative relationship among the team by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
28. Follows the incident reporting policy and procedure in reporting any potential safety issues.
29. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff, management, and other team members.
30. Exercises good judgment and discretion in deviating from the policy in circumstances where strict adherence would pose a risk to the patient, visitor, staff, or facility.
31. Nurses must maintain an active license. The supervisor MUST be notified if the license becomes inactive, suspended, or terminated.
32. Other nursing duties, as needed.
