JOB TITLE: NURSE MANAGER:
SUPERVISION: Administrator
PURPOSE: To direct, coordinate and control the multi-disciplinary activities required to provide a safe environment for patients undergoing access procedures. Also responsible for the interpretation, direction and evaluation of nursing practice to insure safe, efficient and therapeutically effective nursing care throughout the Center. Responsible for the daily activities of the Center in the absence of the Administrator (CEO).
KEY PROCESSES:
* Responsible for the management of Personnel
* Responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, evaluation and supervision of nursing personnel and ancillary staff with the final approval of the Administrator.
* Develops and implements an orientation/competency program for nursing and ancillary personnel.
* Responsible for developing and maintaining the nursing personnel staffing schedule that will facilitate safe, effective and efficient care for the Center’s patients.
* Oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of the Center’s accreditation activities.
* Oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of the Center’s Quality Improvement and Infection Control Program.
* Oversees the implementation of discharge planning and patient/family education.
* Develops and conducts monthly/prn staff meetings to facilitate communication among the staff and disseminates information regarding the operation of the Center.
* Serves as a professional role model to the staff.
* Provides for and encourages continual education of the clinical staff.
* Administrative/Fiscal Management
* Assists in preparing and provides justification for the Center’s annual operating budget.
* Responsible for developing and implementing cost containment strategies in the Center and educates personnel on their role in controlling costs.
* Attends Center’s quarterly Professional staff and committee meetings. Prepares agenda, gathers data for review and analysis and prepares minutes. Assists in performing the credentialing process of information gathering for the staff.
* Reports to the Board of Directors as directed.
* Reviews, revises and updates all policy/procedure manuals, bylaws, job descriptions, committee functions, etc. on a regular basis under the supervision of the Administrator.
* Assures the Center’s compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
* Assures compliance with HFAP accreditation.
* Prepares for and oversees all reviews
* Maintains all center contracts.
* Other Responsibilities
* Maintains statistics and other records as required by regulations and as directed by the Administrator.
* Maintains records of equipment purchased, repair costs, service contracts and supply usage.
* Responsible for overseeing the proper use, care and maintenance of all equipment used in the Center.
* Participates as an active member on assigned Center committees and attends other meetings as directed.
* Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment at the Center. Is responsible for initiating and implementing corrections to maintain a safe environment.
* Delegates administrative and clinical responsibilities to another registered nurse in her absence with notification to the Administrator.
* Assumes administrative responsibility of the Center in the absence of the Administrator.
* Follows Center policies and procedures at all times.
* Promotes a high standard of nursing care to assist in establishing the Center’s reputation in the community.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
* *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the medical field, such as medical terminology, infection control, and current laws and regulations that relate to ASC’s. Must have the ability to perform data input, computer operations with ability to type 60 words per minute, verbal and written communications, math, knowledge of grammar and spelling and demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures. Must work effectively as a team member with all physicians and staff. Must be flexible and respond to changing demands.
* *Equipment Used: *Properly trained to use all equipment in medical office including but not limited to: computers, printers, photocopier, facsimile machine, telephone, mail stamping machine, calculator.
* *Mental Demand: *Reads documents, detailed work, maintain confidentiality, problem solving, reasoning, verbal communication, written communication, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, and frequent interruptions.
* *Communications: *Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, administration, outside agencies, and other departments daily. Interactions may be via telephone, in writing, E-mail, or face-to-face. Must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills when dealing with the public on a daily basis.
* *Physical Effort: *Medium Work: Must be able to lift, reach above head, bend at the waist or kneel, stand or sit for long periods of time, display manual dexterity, walk or otherwise transport self to other areas of the practice, hear or detect pages and the phone and respond appropriately, communicate with other individuals for the provision and gathering of information.
* *Working Conditions: *Category I: High Risk, position contains tasks that daily involve exposure to blood, body fluids. Office environment.
* *Education, Experience, and Training: *Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing with a current Oregon state license as a Registered Nurse. Current certification in Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as well as Advanced Cardiac Life Support. At least two years of clinical nursing experience with one or more years of management experience. Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients and others.
