The APRN or PA will perform professional care according to established standards and practice and in accordance with the Florida Statutes. The APRN or PA will assist Sarasota Vascular Specialists in the evaluation, management, and treatment of vascular surgical patients being evaluated in the inpatient setting. The APRN or PA is responsible for the treatment of patients in the acute care setting (ED, observation, and inpatient units) within the scope of practice permitted under Florida law. The APRN or PA may, within a framework of established protocols and collaborative practice agreements, initiate, monitor, and alter drug therapy, initiate appropriate therapies in certain conditions, and perform other acts of diagnosis, treatment, and operation. The APRN or PA may assist in vascular surgical procedures.

· Provides timely, evidence-based, safe, high-quality care and consultation to vascular surgical patients being evaluated in the inpatient setting.

· Counsels patients in preventative health and cardiovascular risk factor modification.

· Monitors and manages critically ill patients receiving vasoactive/inotropic support or other invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment.

· Provides pre- and post-procedure education, assessment, and care.

· Performs comprehensive History and Physical Examinations, hospital admissions, and discharges.

· Autonomously provides care to vascular surgical patients under general or indirect supervision of a physician.

· Manages medical problems; initiates, monitors and alters therapies; orders diagnostic tests and prescribes therapeutic medication.

· Regularly confers with collaborating physicians regarding diagnosis, treatment, best form of therapy projected, and alerts physicians to abnormal findings.

· Triages new consults and patient phone calls, works collaboratively with ancillary staff and members of the multidisciplinary team, renews prescriptions, and coordinates care and procedures.

· On call duties: respond to messages and calls from hospital staff and vascular surgery outpatients, communicating as needed with on call or responsible physician

· Provides continuity of care to patients and increases patient access to specialized care.

· Assists and coordinates patient care with nursing, consulting teams, and ancillary staff in collaboration with the attending physician.

· Documents orders, procedures, patient encounter notes, and charges in the patient’s electronic medical record.

· Represents and supports the mission, philosophy and goals of the Practice.

· Participates in clinical and educational objectives required for licensure, certification and credentialing.

· Responsible for assisting in development, implementation, and maintenance of established practice and hospital policies and procedures, including quality assurance, environmental, HIPAA, and infection control regulations.

· Responsible for development and maintenance of inpatient protocols for APRN OR PA OR PA activity under the direction of Sarasota Vascular Specialists physicians.

· Participation in educational conferences, team-building activities, and Quality Assurance and Improvement Programs

· Report relevant E&M coding and billing in a timely and responsible manner

Education, Certification, and Licensing Requirements:

· MSN\*, DNP\*, MPAS, or DScPAs required.

· Licensed by the State of Florida as an APRN or PA.

· Board certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) as an ACNP or AGACNP; or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

· BLS, ACLS

Experience Requirements:

· Previous experience as a nurse practitioner or PA preferred, but new graduates with relevant experience may be considered.

· Previous vascular surgery experience preferred but not required.

· Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

· Business Skill Requirements:

· Microsoft office

· Electronic medical record

· E&M coding
