Description FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I (7887) (GRADE 7) ***Effective 10/22/2025 - All candidates must upload a clear photo of their driver's license (front and back)*** **Scroll to the bottom of this announcement for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)** The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is recruiting for the Facility Maintenance Technician I (FMT I) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification throughout the agency. This is the entry level of maintenance and construction work on facilities such as bridges, buildings, bulkheads, highways, parking areas, piers, railroads, ramps, roads, taxiways, tunnels, or adjacent areas of the Maryland Department of Transportation. Employees utilize the tools, operate the motorized equipment, and perform the manual tasks essential to the upkeep and appearance of a facility. Employees work independently or as members of a crew. At the journey level, employees may work within a specialized trade. Employees do not supervise, but may provide guidance, instruction, and assistance to other employees. Incumbents receive general supervision from a Facility Maintenance Technician IV or other designated official. This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion, which is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds, and may also be required to work at high elevations or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground. Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent may be exposed to: Hazardous weather and weather extremes Dangerous highway conditions & situations Extreme noise levels and vibration while operating or riding equipment Hazardous materials including pesticides Hazards of nature such as animals, poisonous insects, and plants IMPORTANT: The State Highway Administration will only be providing electronic notifications of your application status to the email address provided on the application.
