New Story School in Columbus, OH "is seeking a qualified Head of School/ Special Education Principal"to maintain day-to-day operations at assigned locations. They will establish a strong culture with an emphasis on effective instruction, positivity, safety, and meeting the needs of all NSS students. The Head of School will also work to ensure that successful teaching and learning is occurring in all NSS classrooms at their assigned locations. They are expected to work closely with program coordinators to ensure proper support, training, and materials are available at their disposal in order to support teachers and classroom support staff.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Direct the overall operations of the school, ensuring alignment with the school's mission to support students with learning disabilities in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Establish school goals and objectives, oversee curriculum planning, and drive ongoing improvement of instruction, assessment, and student support services.
  • Supervise the administrative team, including participation in weekly meetings, and support their professional development and performance.
  • Lead staffing decisions, ensure proper staff training, and approve professional development programs that align with school objectives.
  • Direct the admissions process, manage enrollment targets, participate in tours and parent meetings, and ensure successful student and parent orientation activities.
  • Collaborate on budget development and actively monitor financial resources, tuition income, and enrollment statistics to support school goals.
  • Conduct proactive discussions with parents, such as coffee chats with the principals, to address concerns and foster a supportive school community.
  • Promote and market Meliora Academy within the community, establish partnerships, and maintain relationships with New Story for budgeting, HR, and facility maintenance.
  • Work closely with staff and parents on issues related to students, curriculum, behavior, and enrollment, and participate in placement and funding discussions, including testifying at impartial hearings if needed.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field is required.
  • At least three years of proven leadership experience in a special education setting, demonstrating expertise in managing teams, supporting staff development, and driving program success.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff, students, families, and the broader community.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and nurture productive working relationships with staff, parents, students, and the public to foster a cohesive, supportive educational environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to make sound decisions, resolve conflicts, and adapt strategies to support students and staff, particularly in a special education context.
Preferred/Nice-to-have:
  • A master's degree in education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field is required.
