The Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic is excited to recruit for a Gastroenterology (GI) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program. This is a 12-month training program with the purpose of advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary systems. This comprehensive postgraduate program is designed to provide structured specialty training and education for nurse practitioners (NPs) or physician assistants (PAs). Our curriculum consists of mentored outpatient and inpatient rotations with a collaborative gastroenterology and hepatology practice. The curriculum is designed to provide the APP with the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care in the gastroenterology specialty.

We are currently accepting applications for our 2025-2026 academic year cohort.

ELIGIBILITY

All applicants must submit a complete application by the stated deadline and have:

* Completed, at minimum, a master's program with degree conferred.
* National board certification.
* Licensing in Florida obtained before start date without any restrictions.
* Ability to be credentialed by local hospital Medical Executive Committee and Board of Governors.

This Gastroenterology (GI) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program will be based at The Cleveland Clinic, Weston Florida campus, in Weston Florida, with the ability to travel to our satellite facilities as educational opportunities arise. The fellowship will be twelve months long with planned start in July 2025. Dr. Tolga Erim, Christina Freese, APRN and Monica Fazzini PA-C will chair the recruitment and management of the program along with other members of the department and leadership. The fellow will spend approximately 80% of their time on direct clinical care of patients with the remaining 20% spent on quality improvement and/or education projects . During this time, the APP will be able to attend select lectures with the Gastroenterology fellows as well as work alongside with staff. Teaching methods will include modeling by staff physicians and APPs, participation in weekly conferences, use of scientific literature and information technology and recommended readings. The APP will be evaluated by demonstration of skills, self-assessment exercises, rotational evaluations completed by preceptor and case study presentations for core rotations.

Compensation and Benefits:

The fellow will be hired in a full-time, salaried position not to exceed one full year of employment. The fellow will be eligible for the full-time benefits as described in the Total Rewards Brochure. Please note, Advanced Practice Fellowship's at Cleveland Clinic are compensated at a reduced pay scale compared to other Advanced Practice positions within our organization. As a fellow, you will receive a competitive salary that reflects the specialized training, mentorship, and hands-on experience provided during the program. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for dedicated individuals to develop advanced skills in the gastroenterology field and work alongside experts in this arena.

If the fellow is successful in the role, upon completion of the termed program the fellow will have the option to apply for an open position within the department or within the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. If the fellow does not secure employment within the Cleveland Clinic, their employment will be terminated per the terms of this fellowship. Employment at the end of the fellowship is not guaranteed.

APRN/PA learns the role of an Advanced Practice provider under supervision of the APRN/PA preceptor and/or Physician preceptor for no longer than 12 months.

Responsibilities:

* Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan. Works in collaboration with the health care team.
* Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
* Performs routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
* May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license through applicable state board and Cleveland Clinic policies.
* Educates patients and answers questions regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
* Participates in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.
* Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.
* Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.
* Participates in quality monitoring thru the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.
* Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
* Supports professional development of the health care team.
* Promotes translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research.
* May conduct research studies. May assists in data collection and analysis.
* May serve as clinical preceptor for students. May onboard new caregivers.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education:

* Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program.
* Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.
* National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing.
* Currently licensed as a nurse practitioner in applicable states.

Languages:

* Oral and written communication in English

Certifications:

* Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.
* National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing.
* License to practice and prescribe issued by their practicing states Licensing Board.
* Current DEA License or DEA designee as recommended by NCQA.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
* If candidate has held a license to prescribe within another jurisdiction and needs to obtain a master's degree in order to apply for prescribing privileges the candidate will be subject for review for eligibility for hiring within our system.
* Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.
* Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
