Job Description
Under the direction of the Managing Director, the Product Manager manages the development of customer product and merchandising programs. In addition, the successful candidate will manage the continuous evolvement of category product lines with the goal of improving overall company sales and profitability. From a product development standpoint, the Product Manager is responsible for every aspect of the product development cycle from cradle to grave including idea generation, concept development, technical requirements, defining product/brand vision, and working closely with sales, design, and operations to ensure customer satisfaction goals are met. The successful Product Manager will develop and manage cross-functional roadmaps and timelines to launch new products. In addition, the Product Manager will improve the competitiveness and profitability of existing lines.
Duties:
Take ownership for category sales, margin, inventory, and quality goals ensuring product line meets and exceeds both company objectives and customer expectations.
- Client communication/visit to facilitate project development and product proposal.
- Perform market research for both product category competitive trends as well as key channel/customer specific trends. Research would include utilization of primary and secondary sources as well as independent retail analysis.
- Develop strategic category plans as well as the tactical activities required to grow category sales and profitability.
- Develop and implement a go-to-market plan for new products and new merchandising plans working with all departments to execute.
- Provide product direction to account team in terms of product specifications, packaging suggestions and cost targets.
- Determine and direct appropriate collateral materials, merchandising and launch plans for new and existing products to effectively represent the offering. Direct and drive the graphics needed to support the implementation of product packaging, labeling, catalog copy, sell sheets, product specifications, customer presentations and product knowledge training.
- Manage the entire product life cycle including product line rationalization and product, product line and category elimination.
Your Responsibilities:
The Team: You will be part of a team who is responsible for the management of traditional B2B channel distributors and nationwide wholesalers within the core office domain.
Market Expertise: You will conduct market research and competition analysis and help identify product opportunities.
Product Expertise: You will focus on product research, product line development, and product pricing.
Management: You will manage multiple key product categories in core office products and work closely with the sales dept. to strategize each category towards the B2B channel.
Product Growth: You will collaborate with the sales department to define product roadmaps and drive initiatives aimed at accelerating product growth and market penetration.
Occasional Travel: You will travel up to 25% of the time to visit important customers with the sales team, attend trade shows. It is also expected to travel to China a few times per year.
Qualifications
5+ Years in a product manager role with increased responsibility
· Experience and ability to manage multiple core office product categories such as Tape, Glue, Writing Instruments, Binders, Filing, Office Supplies etc.
- Bilingual English – Mandarin
· If remote, within pacific time zone. Preferred commuting distance to Irvine
Compensation: $100 - $140K., DOE.
