The CNC Set-up Machinist on the PM SHIFT is responsible for operating CNC machines to fabricate parts, assemble components, and ensure high-quality production output in a safe and timely manner. The CNC Set-up Machinist will play a crucial role in programming machines, utilizing CAM programming, running CNC machines and utilizing precision tools to meet Engineering and production requirements efficiently. This person will also maintain and utilize commercial production equipment such as Mills, lathes, and other power and hand tools in the fabrication of production parts, components and fixtures.


Roles and Responsibilities

· Able to set up and operate CNC milling, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications.

· Able to perform program modification utilizing on the machine edits of CNC machine G/M code program.

· Test the accuracy of settings and programs.

· Inspect parts using precision measuring tools.

· Operate machines and monitor operation and control panel displays to detect malfunctions and make adjustments accordingly.

· Follows all safe work practices and safety rules.

· Train and mentor other machinists, in writing and modifying G-Code programs.

· Operate CNC machines, manual mills and lathes to fabricate parts according to specifications.

· Review CNC program output, part references, tooling and compare against drawings, travelers, and work instructions to ensure correlation.

· Select all equipment and tooling required for the operation based on instructions.

· Ensure all measuring equipment is calibrated prior to use.

· Inspect all machined features and compare to drawing to ensure specified dimensions.

· Ensure work area is clean and clear of all debris and obstacles to minimize risk of injury.

· Follow company policy to wear supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

· Perform daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.

· Ability to machine parts with tolerances down to .0005".

· Ability to use measurement/inspection tools required for dimensional checks during machining process and keep accurate records of such checks.

· Strong knowledge of machine cutting tools (drills, endmills, boring bars, inserted cutters, etc.)

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and work instructions.

· Able to train new employees to operate CNC machines proficiently.

· Conduct regular inspections and AM maintenance on CNC machines.

· Develop, implement, and document equipment maintenance plans.

Requirements:

· High school graduate or equivalent required.

· Technical program certificate or degree preferred, but not required.

· Science, technology, or math background preferred.

· 5-7 years of related experience in CNC programming and CNC operation.

· Strong mechanical aptitude.

· Experience using 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC mills.

· Solid Works and SolidWorks CMM experience a bonus.

· Skilled with precision machining.

· Demonstrated skill in precision and quality inspection.

· Skilled in engineering support for prove-outs and debugging of programs.

· Ability to work in a manufacturing shop environment.

· Intermediate PC and MS Office apps skills (Word, Excell, Outlook, Power Pont, etc.).

· Good problem-solving skills.

· Self-motivated and goal driven.

· Demonstrate strong mathematical ability.

· Accuracy and attention to detail a must.

· Good organization, interpersonal, and communication skills required.

· Ability to work in a team environment.

· Punctual and reliable.

· Demonstrate adaptability to unplanned events, changing priorities and change management.

· Must demonstrate a willingness to receive on the job training.
