Summary      

The Mechanical Designer position is responsible the development of Weld Fixture designs. Capable of designing and creating tools from a rough sketch to a working solid model design. In this process employee is responsible for all engineering calculations necessary for a functional product using all customer required standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assist in the development of proposals and quotes and review quotes/proposals to determine time frame, funding, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.

·         Review design to ensure customer specs are being followed

·         Handle pre-released responsibilities

·         Produce design concepts (ideas)

·         Provide Controls Line-Ups as needed

·         Bring concepts to sketches (in solid model form) Layout / Detail / Check when Required

·         Ensure working mechanical designs

·         Produce engineering calculations within designs when required

·         Work with other designers and layout detailers

·         Responsible for final job screening (High Spot) all manufacturing drawings necessary for build, to ensure working functionality and                   quality prior to release

·         Maintains quality and standardization

·         Provide work to detailers (through layout and checker changes)

·         Capable of reviewing and producing cycle time Process sheets when Required

·         Assist with Lesson Learned Meetings to improve the overall knowledge in the group

·         Assist with Product Change Evaluation and Documentation

·         Assist with Design Reviews and FMEAs

·         Responsible for Deliverables to the customer (ship jobs)

·         Maintain a job folder for each job

·         Improve quality by tracking errors

·         Log progress to Engineering Manager

·         Attend group meetings

·         Help train and educate within the group

·         Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

·         Computers — Working knowledge of Windows, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and competence with 2-D AutoCAD and a 3-D parametric design software (i.e. Inventor, SolidWorks, NX, FIDES, etc.).  Knowledge with a CAM software is beneficial.

·         Mathematics — Knowledge of basic arithmetic, force and load calculations, safety distance calculations, etc.

·         Mechanical — Knowledge of drafting practices, machine tool design, metal-joining practices (GMAW, resistance, laser, rivet, etc. An understanding of mechanical components and the relationship of those to controls design. Understanding of material properties and proper applications.

·         Writing - Ability to properly communicate via email, complete 2-D drawings with notes and title block information accurately, write documentation for the project.

·         Reading — Ability to read, analyze, and interpret customer specifications, mechanical designs, technical procedures.

Qualifications (Education, Training, Certification, Licenses, Experience)

 

·         Overall Experience — Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for this position.  Active participation in managing manufacturing and commissioning of multiple projects.

·         Job Training — Employees in this occupation usually need training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. 

·         Education — High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a seven or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
