Primary Focus:

This position has full management, fiscal and operational responsibility for our extremely busy Construction Business Unit. Will be responsible for supervising numerous project managers as well as teaming with the Operations Manager to oversee the direction of the field crews and support personnel to assist with daily operations. Success will be highly determined by customer satisfaction, strategic planning initiatives, and direct, involved teamwork.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Construction

  • Manage a team of Project Managers to ensure contract compliance and adherence to project timelines, budgets and business plans
  • Through the Operations Manager and/or Project Managers, oversee and direct field personnel
  • Review and evaluate estimates created by Estimating Dept. and/or project managers
  • Oversee and participate in project buy-outs
  • Monitor the volume of work and prioritization of jobs
  • Manage day-to-day client interaction and expectations for multiple projects, ensuring outstanding customer service
  • Manage new and current subcontractor relations and communicate status of projects effectively amongst vendors, subcontractors, etc.
  • Pursue potential construction leads

Financial

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and forecasts for the Construction Department
  • Utilize data and statistical information to conduct effective cost analysis
  • Provide cost analysis and reporting information to assist team members in decision making and other financial initiatives
  • Monitor production goals and maintain profitability

Other

  • Reviews and updates weekly Job Cost Reports on the status and progress of the jobs, including project costs and any potential changes
  • Ensures that all jobs are assigned to a Project Manager and they maintain fiscal control
  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit and motivates staff
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews with team
  • Ensure employee compliance with all company policies
  • Leads all personnel on a strong H&S focus and ensures safety guidelines are followed on all job site

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training required
  • 5-10 years of related (construction) experience preferred
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical skills and attention to detail skills
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; working well in group and team problem-solving situations imperative
