Provides support and developmental feedback to students who provide patient care at the clinic. Monitors the clinical services provided by students, and ensures that those services are offered in the patients’ best interests. Works with physicians to obtain clearance for providing dental services. Reviews patients’ medical records, and communicates dental care concepts. Provides dental screening services to the clinic’s patients, explains regulatory protocols, and advises them on treatment and/or referrals as necessary. Ensures that the dental services provided by students meet and/or exceed industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures, and operates at all times within state and federal statutes and regulations and within standards of accreditation.
  • Screens and reviews all patient medical histories before administering their dental hygiene services.
  • Provides quality educational/learning support to students on key elements of dental care.
  • Consults with physicians regarding medical conditions requiring clearance for dental hygiene treatment.
  • Prescribes antibiotic prophylaxis medication(s) for the clinic’s patients when medically indicated.
  • Conducts preliminary oral assessments in conjunction with assessing patients’ radiographic examination needs.
  • Prescribes patient radiographs as indicated by patient need.
  • Conducts cursory oral screening examinations for clinic patients.
  • Evaluates suspicious lesions, anomalies, or other pathologies.
  • Refers patients for dental care services as indicated.
  • Prescribes dental sealants as indicated.
  • Administers local anesthesia as required, or supervises the administration of local anesthesia by students.
  • Provides dental services as a backup when needed.
  • Attends to patients in the event of medical emergencies.
  • Responds to issues from patients of record, in person or via phone.
  • Completes Dental Hygiene program in-service activities as required.
  • Attends and participates in Dental Hygiene department meetings and program functions.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with faculty members to ensure the correlation and standardization of course content and clinical application.
  • Performs clinical support functions as assigned or needed.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all other Campus personnel.
  • Conducts his or her professional and personal life in a fashion that fosters a positive impression of the Campus and the Company.
  • Performs the job on site when required. Remote work is appropriate when onsite work is not required. Subject to change if superseded by Human Resource policy regarding remote work.
Job RequirementsEducation:
  • A minimum of a doctoral degree in dentistry.
Experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical dental practice experience.
  • A background in educational methodology preferred.
  • Industry expertise through continuing education and journal readings.
Qualifications, Certifications, and/or License Requirements:
  • Dental licensure qualifications compliant with the State Board of Dentistry.
  • Active professional membership and current CPR certification.
