Primary Purpose:

Job Summary: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to assist in the proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

Primary Duties (*=Essential Functions):

  1. Communication & Patient Care*:
  2. Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by Center for Sight. *
  3. Verify the patient’s demographics provided by the electronic medical records system in a respectful and professional manor. Enter all applicable data into the diagnostic machines. *
  4. Acquires accurate and reliable images and measurements on all of the following diagnostic equipment.*

-Visual Field -OCT

-Corneal Topography -ORA G3

-Lenstar/A-scan -HD Analyzer

-Fundus Photography -External Photos

-Lipiview/Lipiflow -Wave-Scan

  1. Upload acquired tests into the Electronic Medical Records system. Ensure that all required data is input and accurate.*
  2. Wash and sterilize medical instruments using the autoclave. *
  3. Troubleshoots instruments as necessary.*
  4. Perform any required maintenance, calibration, or data back up on the diagnostic equipment.*

  1. Clinical Flow and Efficacy*:
  • Determines which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to be worked up.*
  • Escorts patients to and from waiting areas assisting if patients requires or makes a reasonable request.*
  • Assists the patients as they navigate through the dimly lit diagnostic testing area from the different diagnostic equipment.*
  • Escorts patients from the diagnostic area back to the dilation room and give the patient realistic but flexible expectations on their expected wait time.*
  • Mark the patient as “Waiting for Doctor or Technician” once all of the necessary information has been input in the patient medical records.*
  • Routinely check to see if there are any medical instruments that need to be sterilized *
  • Maintain stock levels of supplies and cleanliness of the diagnostic testing area.*
  • Seeks guidance supervisor and physicians as necessary, never performing beyond their clinical capabilities.*

Position Requirements:

Job Specifications (Knowledge Skills Abilities):

  1. High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  2. One to two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant preferred but not required.
  3. Bilingual preferred, not required.
  4. Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  5. Requires strong computer competency including the ability to learn new programs quickly.
  6. Requires the ability to work in an office environment that requires extended periods of standing and working in a dimly lit work area.
