Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPrimary Purpose:
Job Summary: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to assist in the proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.
Primary Duties (*=Essential Functions):
- Communication & Patient Care*:
- Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by Center for Sight. *
- Verify the patient’s demographics provided by the electronic medical records system in a respectful and professional manor. Enter all applicable data into the diagnostic machines. *
- Acquires accurate and reliable images and measurements on all of the following diagnostic equipment.*
-Visual Field -OCT
-Corneal Topography -ORA G3
-Lenstar/A-scan -HD Analyzer
-Fundus Photography -External Photos
-Lipiview/Lipiflow -Wave-Scan
- Upload acquired tests into the Electronic Medical Records system. Ensure that all required data is input and accurate.*
- Wash and sterilize medical instruments using the autoclave. *
- Troubleshoots instruments as necessary.*
- Perform any required maintenance, calibration, or data back up on the diagnostic equipment.*
- Clinical Flow and Efficacy*:
- Determines which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to be worked up.*
- Escorts patients to and from waiting areas assisting if patients requires or makes a reasonable request.*
- Assists the patients as they navigate through the dimly lit diagnostic testing area from the different diagnostic equipment.*
- Escorts patients from the diagnostic area back to the dilation room and give the patient realistic but flexible expectations on their expected wait time.*
- Mark the patient as “Waiting for Doctor or Technician” once all of the necessary information has been input in the patient medical records.*
- Routinely check to see if there are any medical instruments that need to be sterilized *
- Maintain stock levels of supplies and cleanliness of the diagnostic testing area.*
- Seeks guidance supervisor and physicians as necessary, never performing beyond their clinical capabilities.*
Position Requirements:
Job Specifications (Knowledge Skills Abilities):
- High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
- One to two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant preferred but not required.
- Bilingual preferred, not required.
- Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
- Requires strong computer competency including the ability to learn new programs quickly.
- Requires the ability to work in an office environment that requires extended periods of standing and working in a dimly lit work area.
