FUEL DISPENSING:

The following is a list of procedures and guidelines regarding the dispensing of fuel. Failure to follow these will result in dismissal.

  1. There is to be no smoking on the fuel dock or the small boat basin while fueling is in progress. If anyone is smoking either on the boat being fueled, or another, or the dock, stop fueling until cigarettes etc. Are extinguished.
  2. Do not dispense fuel to boats with engines or generators or blower motors, or any other hazardous equipment in operation.
  3. Cape marina employees are not permitted to fuel vessels, only to assist. The customer must be present for fueling, and is to be handed the fuel hose so that he can deliver the fuel himself. Do not turn on the fuel pump until the customer has fuel nozzle in the filler pipe and is ready to accept fuel.
  4. Before handing the customer the fuel hose, ask him what kind of fuel he needs. When he replies, repeat back to him either “diesel fuel” or “gasoline” (not just fuel or gas) and be sure that he has heard and understands. If there is any question as to what kind of fuel the boat takes, be sure that the question is cleared before you hand over the fuel hose. You will be responsible and will absorb any cost for dispensing the wrong kind of fuel.
  5. At the conclusion of fueling, stow hoses so that they are not lying on the ramp, or the floating docks, and so that they are not a tripping hazard to persons on the docks.
  6. Report any hazardous conditions to any fueling equipment, and report any spillage of fuel. Do not dispense fuel if there are leaky hoses or anything that might constitute a hazard while fueling.
  7. Before dispensing any fuel, establish how payment is to be made. In all cases correct accounting must be made on the fuel tickets. In the case of a large credit card purchase, authorizations should be obtained before fuel is dispensed.
