Job DescriptionJob Description

About Newark Auto:

Established in 1907, Newark Auto is a trusted name in crafting interior parts for classic vehicles. From the timeless models of the early 20th century to the sleek designs of 90’s German sports cars, we blend tradition with innovation. By digitizing our library of hand-drawn and cut paper patterns, we are preserving automotive heritage while embracing modern tools like CAD software and CNC machinery.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Digital Patternmaker to modernize our collection of upholstery templates for classic cars. This role involves digitizing, refining, and organizing existing paper patterns while collaborating with our manufacturing team to ensure precision and consistency in production. If you’re passionate about design, technology, and automotive history, this is your chance to make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Pattern Digitization & Design:

  • Transform hand-drawn paper patterns into precise digital files (DXFs) using modern CAD software (e.g., NShot Pro, Mirisys, Gerber).

  • Adapt digital patterns for compatibility with CNC cutting machines and sewing workflows.

  • Ensure patterns meet modern manufacturing standards for accuracy and efficiency.

Catalog Management:

  • Create and maintain a well-organized digital library of patterns for future use.

  • Develop a protective physical storage system for original paper patterns.

  • Document compatibility details such as vehicle year, make, and model.

Collaboration & Innovation:

  • Work closely with manufacturing and design teams to test and refine patterns.

  • Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality in production.

Quality Assurance:

  • Validate all digitized patterns against originals to ensure precision.

  • Conduct quality checks to meet production and client expectations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with CAD software for pattern-making (e.g., NShot Pro, Mirisys, Gerber) is required.

  • Hands-On Experience: At least 1 year in a pattern-making or cut-and-sew production environment, ideally within upholstery or garment manufacturing.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify fit, design, or production issues and independently develop creative, efficient solutions.

  • Adaptability: Thrives in a small, fast-paced team environment where responsibilities can shift, and multitasking is key.

  • Independence: Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects with minimal supervision. Able to prioritize tasks effectively and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills and a sharp eye for precision in both physical and digital work.

  • Passion: A genuine interest in automotive history or upholstery craftsmanship is a bonus.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive hourly pay: $25–$35, based on experience.

  • Comprehensive benefits, including:

    • 401(k) with matching contributions

    • Health, dental, and vision insurance

    • Life insurance

    • Paid time off

  • On-the-job training to refine CAD and CNC skills.

  • A collaborative and supportive work environment where your contributions are valued.

  • The opportunity to work on meaningful projects that preserve automotive heritage.
