BAS Controls Technician

Our technicians, whether service or construction, must have a combination of strong technical skills in building automation, and excellent customer relationship skills. Construction technicians focus more on speed, efficiency and ability to deliver construction projects in compliance with the contract documents. Service technicians must have solid troubleshooting skills along with an excellent customer service mindset. Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- In many cases, our technicians are responsible for every aspect of a project-programming, graphics, commissioning, balancing assistance, etc. Service technicians are responsible for small service projects, routine support agreements and completing work orders.
- Provide technical and application support for Distech and Tridium product lines as well as Ethernet, BACnet, and LON networks and be able to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience.
- Offer creative solutions to solve our customer’s challenges in order to help them optimize comfort, safety and efficiency.
- Provide training to our end-user customers.
- Implement the Conexus commissioning procedures to document compliance with contract documents and customer expectations. Ensures all work completed meets the Conexus quality standards.
- Evaluate field conditions as required and recommend design modifications to eliminate omissions, oversights or design inaccuracies.
- Adheres to all OSHA, Conexus and customer safety standards.
- Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, such as, but not limited to, lifting over 50 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, stooping and the ability to maneuver within small spaces
- Ability to pass security clearances and work in schools, prisons, and government facilities.
- Some travel requirements with occasional overnight stays.
- Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required
Additionally for service technicians:
- Complete service agreement tasks and scheduled maintenance assignments to ensure that the building automation system is properly maintained and operating correctly.
- Handles emergency service calls as directed during the day and after hours. Responds to customer service calls (emergency, on-site, or on-line), checks indicated points of trouble, analyzes full requirements of the system involved and checks and tests systems components. Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems, and determines corrective action and repairs system.
- Has extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
- Communicates with customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customer to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and or replacement.
Qualifications and Experience:
Drive, determination and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet established criteria are necessary for successful job performance. Must exhibit technical problem solving skills using ingenuity and ability to work within approved organizational systems and technology.
- Minimum of 4 years related experience and /or training or equivalent combination of education and experience in BAS systems and sequences of operation including Ethernet, BACnet, and LON networks.
- Experience with Delta, Distech, Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider, Johnson Controls, or Tridium control systems.
- Any training or experience in the electrical or electronics fields.
- Niagara AX/N4 certification
- Any Microsoft certifications
- Possess the ability to read and understand technical specifications, construction plans and contract requirements.
- An understanding of typical HVAC systems such as hot water and steam boiler systems, chilled water systems using air cooled chillers, water cooled chillers, tower/boiler heat pump systems, air handlers, and VAV box systems.
- Experience with PC's in windows environments, web-enabled applications and database software. Advanced competency in computer networking client/server environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of the application of TCP/IP network fundamentals.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and get things done.
- Communication skills sufficient to build positive relationships with co-workers, customers and contractors.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to speak and write in the English language.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public. Ability to create documents requesting clarifications or information in a concise and legible manner.
Personal Attributes: Must enjoy working in a structured environment with clear expectations. Faster than average pace of work and quality cannot be compromised. Enjoy working in a team environment; and be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision. Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging goals. Must be able to travel for training or job required support as necessary and maintain a current Pennsylvania Drivers License
