Purpose:

Design-build estimators play a crucial role in the construction process by accurately estimating the cost of construction projects. They work closely with architects, engineers, and construction managers to gather the necessary data and develop comprehensive cost estimates for various project types. As a design-build estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing the design plans, analyzing project specifications, and determining the materials, labor, and equipment required for successful execution. This role requires strong analytical and math skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Review design plans, specifications, and contract documents to accurately identify project requirements.
  2. Analyze project specifications and collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction managers to identify potential cost savings and recommend appropriate alternatives.
  3. Obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors for materials, equipment, and labor.
  4. Prepare cost estimates for the entire project, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.
  5. Conduct site visits to gather necessary data, such as measurements, quantities, and site conditions.
  6. Use specialized software or spreadsheets to create detailed cost breakdowns and cost forecasts.
  7. Review and analyze bids and proposals from subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
  8. Maintain and update project cost-tracking spreadsheets and databases.
  9. Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to communicate project cost requirements and updates.
  10. Stay updated on industry trends, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
  11. Ideally, Estimator will bring a book of Electrical business from trusted customers and will refer qualified electricians to join our ever-growing Team of Professional Electricians.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses & Work Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required.
  2. Proven experience working as a design-build estimator in the construction industry.
  3. Strong analytical and math skills, including proficiency in analyzing complex data and developing cost models.
  4. Proficient in using estimating software Accubid, ConEst or similar.
  5. Familiarity with construction contracts, building codes, and regulations.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  7. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  8. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  10. Knowledge of green building practices and sustainability initiatives is a plus.
