We’re seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to bring essential technical expertise and deliver engineering work that supports our projects’ high standards. This role involves performing assignments of intermediate complexity under the guidance of the Discipline Lead or Area Lead Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and recommend technical solutions to project-specific challenges of intermediate complexity.
  • Develop and review specifications, design criteria, and technical documentation.
  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and specify materials, equipment, and systems.
  • Coordinate technical issues across various disciplines, project management teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Adhere to project quality plans and execute work within scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Monitor and report on material key quantities, providing analysis and forecasts.
  • Offer technical support related to procurement, subcontracting, and construction administration activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a related field, with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) experience on commercial or industrial projects preferred.
  • Proficiency with federal, state, and local codes and standards, including DOE orders.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with project management, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant discipline codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling, 2D CADD, and multi-discipline EPC projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Discipline-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of I&C design tasks, including control systems architecture, PLC/DCS network configuration, process control, and HMI communication protocols.
  • Prepare and modify design documents, such as wiring diagrams, panel layouts, logic diagrams, and installation details.
  • Conduct control systems sizing calculations for instruments like control valves and thermowells.
  • Maintain and generate reports in Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) database.
  • Support model reviews, develop control systems narrative specifications, and represent control systems in model reviews.
  • Design specifications for Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) hardware and software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Hands-on field experience.
  • Experience with U.S. Department of Energy or other Federal Government Agencies, nuclear facilities, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology projects.
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Intermediate knowledge in:
    • Instrumentation specification and procurement
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) interpretation
    • Developing control strategies and instrument design/installation requirements.
