Primary Function
The Residential Technician at the Residential Treatment Program coordinates and provides a supportive residential environment for individuals in a substance abuse treatment setting. Responsibilities include supervising clients, maintaining adherence to treatment plans, and ensuring a quality residential experience.
Job Description
- Supervise female-specific residential quarters across all shifts.
- Engage with all patients in clinical settings; attendance is essential, including potential night/weekend shifts.
- Adhere to and enforce agency policies, documenting any changes.
- Conduct regular facility rounds, document whereabouts of clients, check for unsafe conditions, and correct as necessary.
- Facilitate and document scheduled activities, including intakes, urine drug screens, searches, and emergency drills.
- Supervise daily client activities such as medication administration, therapeutic activities, and recreation.
- Intervene as necessary to protect clients, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate emergencies promptly and document accordingly.
- Observe and collect urine specimens, ensuring proper documentation in the EHR.
- Oversee client visitation, enforce rules, and ensure visitors sign confidentiality agreements.
- Conduct contraband searches per policy, ensuring documentation and chain of custody.
- Comply with medication policies, maintaining records and reporting discrepancies.
- Assist with shift coverage when needed, stay alert, and transport clients safely.
- Monitor and report Agency vehicle issues.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients; express empathy as appropriate.
- Cover phones during duty hours, providing courteous and professional service.
- Facilitate groups and obtain required annual training.
- Attend staff meetings and follow all security and confidentiality standards.
- Communicate essential information to staff and promote inter-departmental communication.
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission Behavioral Health standards.
- Oversee orientation and care plan follow-through for new residents.
- Conduct satisfaction surveys and report feedback to management.
- Represent CIHA Behavioral Health at community events as needed.
- Collaborate with staff to implement quality activities for residents.
- Document all significant events per CIHA policy and adhere to confidentiality guidelines.
- Work with CIHA maintenance to ensure facility cleanliness and repairs.
- Assist with cross-training for program needs and support the Beauty for Ashes program.
Education/Experience/Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Female (to meet gender-specific requirements).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain.
- Effective communication skills in verbal and written formats.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn EMR and other software.
- Ability to work independently with flexible hours.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Experience working with Native Americans.
- Certified Peer Support Specialist.
- Experience in a licensed residential setting.
Job Knowledge
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of social work principles, recovery from substance abuse, and psychiatric symptoms.
- Understanding of behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment.
- Familiarity with community resources, policies, and substance abuse treatment.
- Skill in establishing rapport with clients, maintaining professional relationships, and adhering to confidentiality.
- Ability to assess potentially dangerous situations and respond appropriately.
Complexity of Duties
Responsible for maximizing resources to meet community needs, with duties requiring clinical judgment and problem-solving skills, often in high-stress situations.
Supervision Received
Works under the Residential Technician Supervisor with goals and policies clearly defined. Independence and initiative are encouraged within licensing regulations.
Responsibility for Accuracy
High accuracy is required for client management and documentation; errors may result in significant impacts on patient outcomes and community relations.
Contacts with Others
Interacts with coworkers, hospital staff, patients, and community stakeholders, maintaining professional conduct and sensitivity in all exchanges.
Confidential Data
Strict confidentiality regarding patient information is essential, in compliance with EBCI, HIPAA, and CIHA policies. Violations may lead to disciplinary action.
Mental/Visual/Physical Requirements
Duties can be mentally and emotionally stressful, requiring attention to detail and physical mobility. Some lifting (up to 30 lbs) and visual acuity are required.
- Position requires standing and walking (under 1/3 time), sitting (up to 2/3 time), and talking/hearing (over 2/3 time).
- Special vision requirement: Close vision for reading and monitoring.
Work Environment
Primarily in hospital or clinical settings, with moderate exposure risks. Adherence to OSHA guidelines is required. Some travel and infrequent overnight trips may be necessary.

In emergencies, permitted to take actions necessary to save lives or prevent harm, regardless of individual clinical privileges.
