POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is seeking an Environmental Scientist IV physically located in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho). This mid-level scientist position will be responsible for supporting multi-year projects under HGL’s EPA contracts as well as support for the overall EPA programs. This position is fully remote, however, employees will be required to visit/work at local HGL offices on occasion. Some travel will be required.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Supporting technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA-equivalent phases of environmental investigation and restoration projects.
  • Meeting project scope, schedule, budget requirements.
  • Leading and participating in project teams to meet project objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • 6+ years of directly related experience executing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and/or RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field. MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of experience required.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
  • Self-starter, with analytical and leadership skills, with ability to make informed decisions independently with minimal oversight during project execution.
  • Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
  • Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required

  • PMP, PE, and/or PG certifications.
  • Work experience in the EPA Regions in the western United States.
  • Experience with investigation and/or remediation of mine waste-impacted sites.
  • Experience with high resolution site characterization (HRSC).
  • Solid understanding of screening values and risk assessment process.
  • Experience with remedial technologies and approaches.
  • Experience working with EPA, US Army Corps of Engineers, and/or PRPs on EPA Superfund Sites.

The salary range for this position ranges from $77,226 - $115,839. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. If your desired salary falls outside of this range, we hope you'll still apply as there may be other positions that better align.
