JOB SUMMARY
The position of Research Scientist works closely with scientists, researchers, and technicians in conducting research projects to contribute to the development of new products related to the beneficial use of supplementary cementitious materials. This includes the full scope of R&D responsibilities include hands-on testing, data analysis, report generation, presentation of findings, and occasional project management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Comply with Eco Material Technologies Safety Policies and Procedures
· Perform laboratory testing on concrete and cementitious systems.
· Analyze data generated during research and create conclusions from results.
· Assist senior staff with the preparation of technical reports including compiling analytical data, developing data summaries, and writing reports.
· Investigative research such as reviewing scientific literature, code organization documents, test methods, etc.
· Manage small research projects involving input and work from multiple parties.
· Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
· Meets productivity standards, completes work in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Strong understanding of the scientific method and the principles of robust experimental design.
· Can develop thorough testing plans including the management of process and material flow through a lab.
· Ability to apply analytical/scientific thinking to define and solve problems.
· Ability to work well in a team environment with a willingness to follow detailed instructions and learn new skills.
· Ability to investigate and perform new laboratory tests without prior experience.
· Strong technical writing, reporting, and presenting skills.
· Critical reading skills necessary to interpret scientific documents, test methods, and organizational standards.
· Has knowledge of cement, supplementary cementitious material, and concrete testing.
· Understands how coal combustion products are generated, their properties and characteristics.
· Understands the interactions between supplementary cementitious materials and hydraulic cement.
· Knowledge of and ability to interpret the results of analytical characterization techniques such as XRF, XRD, TGA, isothermal calorimetry, etc.
· Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
· Data analytics skills such as modeling, regression analysis, trend fitting and statistical analysis.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
· Bachelor's (minimum) or Graduate degree (preferred) in a STEM discipline
· Minimum of 2 years academic research experience or industrial research role related to cement/supplementary cementitious materials/concrete.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
· Prolong standing or other stationary positions.
· Complete repetitive movements such as typing.
· Work in an environment where exposure to sounds or noise levels may be uncomfortable.
· Complete repetitive movements
· Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hardhat protection)
· Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
· Move or traverse about the facilities.
· Ascend/descend stairs and ladders.
· Work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
