Job Opportunity:

During your 12-week, paid internship, you will participate and contribute to the Executive & Professional Liability Commercial team in Chicago. As the first step in your Underwriting career, you will receive direct training from experienced BHSI Teammates covering the entirety of our product portfolio, including Private/Not-for-Profit Company Directors & Officers Insurance, Employment Practices, Fiduciary Liability and Commercial Crime.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters with the underwriting, placement, and documentation of insurance policies.
  • Analyze the merits of potential insureds through the analysis of submission materials including, but not limited to, stock performance, financial statements, earnings reports, news articles, and product-specific applications.
  • Stay current with respect to major world, economic, business and industry news and developments.
  • Attend and participate in BHSI training and development sessions, both within and outside of Executive & Professional Liability.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Interest or majoring in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business
  • Strong technical skills in financial analysis, including the reading and understanding of financial statements
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently when needed.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills preferably from past job or volunteer experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with MS Office Applications, with a focus on Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • All candidates must have permanent work authorization in the United States.
