POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Network Technician oversees the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of clients’ networks. Demonstrates expertise in networking technologies, security protocols, and problem-solving abilities crucial in ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of clients’ network systems. Works alongside other network and computer support specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software. Including but not limited to Fortinet and Ubiquiti equipment.
  • Design, perform onsite Installation, and troubleshoot networks as necessary for clients in a timely manner.
  • Utilize on-device and cloud software to manage and monitor network performance and reliability, plan for improvements where necessary.
  • Schedule downtime in and out of client hours to update and maintain equipment.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Site-To-Site and Remote Access VPNs.
  • Implement and manage routing protocols for redundancy in Site-To-Site VPN networks.
  • Utilize tools to troubleshoot networks – from basic troubleshooting tools to network scan and traffic analysis tools.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Secure the network against cyber-attacks, including updating firmware on network devices as well as implementing and securing firewall policies.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance to coworkers about network systems.
  • Work to procure the necessary equipment for a network design, while anticipating any future growth and needs

 

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Fortinet devices and services.
  • Basic knowledge of routing protocols.
  • Strong understanding of switching and routing.
  • Familiarity with the OSI model and layers, and their role in a network.
  • Experience with VPN design, configuration, and troubleshooting. Particularly in Fortinet networks or integrating Fortinet equipment with other vendors.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting tools, network scanning tools, traffic analysis tools, and network monitoring tools.
  • Experience in network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Knowledge of IP Subnetting.
  • Knowledge of VLAN segmentation.
  • Hands-on experience with routers and switches.
  • Familiarity with network security principles and practices.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and customer support skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Industry-specific certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or Equivalent Fortinet certification is a plus.

 

Process Improvement:

  • Identify areas for process improvement within the network team and implement best practices to optimize workflows.
  • Collaborate with Network Team Manager to develop and enhance network support policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Self-Motivation and initiative to ensure tasks are being completed with little external management.

  • Works with the Network Team Manager, as well as other teams and technicians to plan and schedule projects and daily tasks.

Technology

Learning:

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and pass on current knowledge to other technicians.
