Position Overview:

As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in fostering academic and personal growth for middle school students with unique learning needs. Your primary mission is to deliver high-quality instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while creating a classroom environment that is inclusive, supportive, and conducive to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Empower Student Success: Utilize instructional strategies tailored to meet the diverse learning styles of students, helping them develop both academic skills and critical thinking.
  • Personalize Learning: Provide necessary accommodations and modifications to support individual student needs and help them reach their IEP goals.
  • Plan & Implement Standards-Based Instruction: Design lessons and activities based on the Illinois Learning Standards, ensuring that instruction meets state requirements and district expectations.
  • Create an Inclusive Classroom Environment: Foster a positive, engaging, and respectful learning culture where all students feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn.
  • Analyze & Act on Data: Collect, interpret, and use data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes, continually adjusting strategies to ensure student progress.
  • IEP Management: Prepare and attend IEP meetings, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and provide timely, clear reports that reflect student progress.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Maintain consistent communication with parents, guardians, and staff, providing updates on student progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Collaborate & Lead: Work closely with general education teachers and support staff to implement and monitor inclusive practices that benefit all students.

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

  • Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with Special Education endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field (preferred).
  • ESL/Bilingual endorsements (preferred but not required).

  • Deep Knowledge of Special Education Best Practices: Expertise in instructional strategies and methods that promote student achievement, especially for students with special needs.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues both in writing and verbally.
  • Collaborative & Team-Oriented: Proven ability to work with colleagues to create inclusive educational environments and support student success.
  • Data-Driven: Skilled at using data to inform instructional decisions, monitor student progress, and improve outcomes.
  • Equity-Focused: Commitment to inclusive practices and maintaining high expectations for all students, ensuring equity in the classroom.
  • Restorative Practices: Familiarity with restorative discipline practices to build a supportive, respectful, and safe classroom environment.
