We are seeking an experienced Medical Physicist to join our dedicated team at a small treatment center where we prioritize patient care and collaboration. The Medical Physicist will support our mission in providing top-quality radiation therapy. This is a full-time role with a steady Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing for work-life balance while making a meaningful impact.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The medical physicist is responsible for the performance and documentation of quality assurance and ensuring safe and effective use of radiation in the clinic, as well as overseeing the scientific and technical aspects of all procedures. This position will also include quality control tests and industry standards, treatment planning review, weekly chart review, participation in radiation safety measures, and assistance in implementation of new technology and/or equipment. The candidate will be required to collaborate with physicians and communicate with other staff members.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Excellent overall understanding of all activities of photon radiation therapy department, (e.g. treatment planning, quality assurance, revenue cycle, customer service, medical staff role(s), etc.)
  • QA the therapy equipment in a manner suitable for accurate radiation dose delivery.
  • Direct the determination of radiation dose distributions in patients undergoing treatment (i.e. computerized dosimetry planning or direct radiation measurement)
  • Maintain proper records necessary for APEx, NRC, state, or other regulatory agencies
  • Design and implement pertinent aspects of the quality management program that involve the use of external beam radiotherapy equipment
  • Manage the medical physics service in a manner to meet or exceed established standards of practice consistent with the facility size and available resources
  • Establish, develop, and monitor procedures for measuring the performance levels of equipment used in radiation oncology
  • Evaluate new technologies and implement as needed, including acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices
  • Consult with the radiation oncologists, as required, concerning patient doses and optimization of patient treatment plans and delivery
  • Serve as the focal point for machine maintenance and repair
  • Proficient in using radiation-measuring equipment for calibration and quality assurance, treatment planning computers, and oncology information systems in a paperless environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Science or Doctoral degree in Radiological Physics, Physics, or related discipline.
  • Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics
  • At least three years post-degree clinical experience in therapeutic medical physics
  • Completion of a clinical medical physics residency program preferred
  • Possess working knowledge of radiation safety principles and current rules and regulations of the State of Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation Department of Radiological Health (TDECDRH) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
  • Extensive knowledge of modern radiation therapy systems and sub-systems
  • Experience and fluency in modern treatment planning software systems. Mosaiq and RayStation treatment planning systems are preferred
  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Proven time management skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills including but not limited to MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Mosaiq
  • Coding skills, such as Python or C++, preferred
