AMERICORPS MEMBER POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: AmeriCorps Member
Supervisor: Jada Diogostine, AmeriCorps Program Manager
Worksite: Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County
Member Type: Reduced Half-Time
Start/End Date: September 16, 2024 - July 25, 2025
Term of Service
- The Member will complete all program requirements and a minimum of 675 hours of service.
- Of these 675 hours, a maximum of 20% of these hours may be training hours.
- A service week generally spans Monday through Friday (20 hours per week); a standard day of service is 4-5 hours.
- Occasionally, there will be weekend service opportunities.
General Function:
The Part Time AmeriCorps Member is responsible for assisting the Program Manager with the implementation of the program, targeting 200 high school-age youth.
Each part-time AmeriCorps Member is responsible for providing direct services, managing day-to-day service activities, serving and mentoring Youth Volunteer Corps members and other club members that form part of the cohort at each service site (Club), and assisting with program delivery targeted to targeted high school age youth.
Key Roles (Essential Functions):
- Assist in developing, coordinating and delivering volunteer and service learning projects in accordance with approved activities and Performance Measures;
- Assist with the development, implementation, and delivery of trainings on careers and their educational requirements, resume writing, networking, interviewing, and job search skills;
- Assist setting up workshops on financial aid options, post-secondary school tours, obtaining recommendations, help with essay writing, SAT/ACT testing and score submissions, college application assistance, enrollment assistance, assistance with housing applications, food programs, and other steps required to complete the process of applying to and enrolling in college.
- Prepare youth for success by supporting an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes, promote and stimulate participation, as well as providing guidance and role modeling to club members
- Provide planned, consistent and systematic one-on-one as well as small group mentoring and tutoring sessions and activities that build on the academic strengths of high school students
- Members will engage low-income children, youth, and families to help improve academic performance through the planning, developing, and leading of educational programs
- Help students stay on track to graduate by providing academic support, delivering behavior/attendance coaching, and encouraging student engagement
- Meet weekly or monthly to receive AmeriCorps Member trainings
- Assist Club staff in delivering core CareerBound programming
- Develop and maintain strong rapport with other AmeriCorps members to address challenges and encourage program completion
- Participate in Virtual Teen programing , training and special events
- Assist with daily/weekly food distribution at club sites and other Covid-19 or disaster relief efforts;

- Strong writing, research and analytical/problem solving skills;

- Ability to establish positive relationships with youth while establishing and maintaining professional boundaries;
- Ability to supervise and motivate Great Futures members in a fluid environment;
- Ability to enforce Boys & Girls Clubs & 21st CCLC rules and policies in a fair and equitable manner;
- Strong computer skills (G-Suite, Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Remind);
- Strong organizational skills;
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- High degree of independence, flexibility, initiative and commitment;
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality;
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of people and work in a team environment;
- Strong problem solving skills and conflict management;
Minimum Requirements:
- Members must have a high school diploma or a GED or be a senior in high school working to obtain a high school diploma (in college or college degree preferred)
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
- Must pass a National Criminal History Background check - to include a drug screen, a Level II FBI background check via fingerprints, and a local background check, and their name run through the National Sex Offender database (www.nsowp.gov).
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with safe driving record or the ability to make travel arrangements to and from the service site.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and utilizing the Internet
