Principal Research Chemist/Scientist

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Principal Research Chemist/Scientist will have specialized knowledge and expertise in the area of target defeat technologies. This individual will serve as an expert consultant and technical authority for novel target defeat technologies and systems. The SME will provide valuable insights, guidance and support to SciTech, the Smoke and Target Defeat Branch at DEVCOM CBC and relevant US Government organizations involved in target defeat technology-centric efforts.
The SME will provide technical direction, review and evaluation of target defeat technologies being pursued or to be pursued. The diverse knowledge and broad experience of this individual will be critical in determining which potential target defeat technology candidates will possess a high likelihood of responding to the US warfighters’ mission requirements.
The SME will use his/her in-depth knowledge and expertise in the field of target defeat technologies to deliver accurate, realistic and up-to-date information, advice, and solutions to SciTech, the Smoke and Target Defeat Branch and other relevant US Government entities involved in this very specialized field of non-lethal antimateriel effectors. The SME will guide and assist in planning and conducting experimental design, development, fabrication and test and evaluation of potential target defeat technologies and associated delivery systems.
Work performed by the SME will be not only independent but also collaborative in nature. The SME will recommend measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of a proposed target defeat technology for the specified application to support US warfighters mission needs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide expert technical direction, review and assessment of target defeat technologies spanning the realm of research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E).
- Review technical reports prepared by SciTech regarding target defeat technologies.
- Prepare or support the preparation of briefings, proposals, correspondence relevant to target defeat technologies.
- Participate in meetings and phone conversations with US Government customers associated with target defeat technologies.
- Provide reporting of work performed for the specified workday.
- Participate in field testing activities involving target defeat technologies which will be conducted primarily at M-Field located at the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG).
Qualifications:
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security clearance.
- Master’s Degree required (Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline).
- PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline) is desired.
- Previous relevant target defeat technology experience of 25 to 30 years is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, positive attitude.
- Microsoft Office experience required
- Advanced communication skills interacting with government representatives as well as industry partners
