Fleet Safety Manager

Job Summary:
The Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of all company vehicles and transportation activities. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and procedures to reduce accidents, injuries, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Fleet Safety Manager will oversee safety training, accident investigation, driver performance monitoring, and reporting to maintain the highest safety standards across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and enforce fleet safety policies and procedures.
•Ensure that safety protocols align with federal, state, and local laws, including DOT regulations.
•Review and update safety programs to ensure they reflect changes in laws, technology, or industry best practice.
•Investigate accidents involving company vehicles, identifying causes and recommending corrective actions.
•Maintain accurate records of accidents, injuries, and vehicle-related incidents, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
•Provide reports on accident trends and propose strategies for reducing accidents and related costs.
•Track and report on fleet safety performance, including incident rates, vehicle conditions, and safety training effectiveness.
•Review driving reports and address any concerns regarding speeding, harsh braking, or other risky behaviors.
•Collaborate with HR and management to address any ongoing driver safety issues or concerns.
•Ensure the fleet is fully operational with the necessary safety equipment (cameras, warning systems)
•Stay updated on advancements in vehicle safety technologies and make recommendations for integration into the fleet.
•Coordinate and prepare for safety inspections and audits by government agencies (DOT, OSHA).•Work with senior management to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety performance across the fleet.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Safety Management, Logistics, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or transportation safety, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Experience with fleet safety programs, accident investigation, and driver training.
- Excellent understanding of safety regulations, policies, and industry standards.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and motivate drivers.
- Proficiency with fleet management software and telematics systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Certifications (preferred):
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or knowledge of CDL requirements
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Certification
- Ability to conduct on-site inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Occasional travel may be required for safety audits, training sessions, or accident investigations.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions when performing safety checks or investigations.

- Timeliness and thoroughness of accident investigations.
- Driver performance and behavior improvement metrics.
- Successful completion of fleet safety audits and inspections.
