Summary:

Direct Support Professionals (DSP) - Employment Support provides and facilitates employment engagement and supports the employment needs of individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities and/or Autism. DSPs work one on one with the employed individual each day and engages individuals in their employment settings by supporting them in their work through teaching and guiding in their daily job duties, professional exaptation's, communication, building professional relationships, schedule needs, paperwork and any other employment need as asked and or needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support while assisting members with the implementation of their yearly Person-Centered Plan goals.
  • Promote quality community connections for members while seeking and developing opportunities in community settings.
  • Always Assure the health and safety of members.
  • Timely completion of all required paperwork, i.e., email correspondence, daily notes, mileage logs, timesheets, progress notes, and incident reports.
  • Provide transportation for members in the community using your personal vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed)
  • Be a positive role model with strong advocacy towards member rights and choice.
  • Work with individuals of all abilities including those with personal care needs and behavioral accommodations. DSP’s will be trained accordingly and should have a firm understanding of the requirements of the member they are supporting.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids – noting that Great Bay Services uses universal precautions.
  • Lifting, bending, sitting, walking, running, stooping, carrying objects, and other physical movements.
  • Work in various seasonal weather conditions.
  • Written, typing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassion for those with differences, and an interest in supporting individuals in achieving their goals.
  • Patience, Empathy, and Creativity.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified DSPs preferred; training will be provided if needed
  • MANDT certification preferred, training will be provided if needed
  • Prior experience working with adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred, but not required
  • First Aid & CPR Certified; training will be provided if needed
  • Valid Driver’s License with a legally registered vehicle
  • Carry Mandatory Auto Insurance of no less than 100K/300K
  • Must pass routine criminal background check, DHHS background check, motor vehicle check, and any others required to comply with Medicaid funding
