ABA Classroom Instructor/Behavior Technician

Position Overview
Full time position with benefits. The ABA Instructional Assistant is responsible for assisting the Classroom Teacher with supervision of students and caring for their physical and emotional health and safety, recognizing their worth, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote self-esteem in all relationships.
The position is school based working from 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday. CABI’s school year runs 226 days per year.

Support of Student’s Educational Needs
- The Instructional Assistant is responsible for running discrete trial programs and behavior plans developed based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.
- Support during mealtimes (i.e. meal preparation)
- Preparation of daily programs
- Daily data sheet (next day’s data sheet on the desk with reinforcement chart ready, communication book, or device at work area.)
- Work area prepared with necessary items (all items placed back into place, books on shelf, etc.)
- Prompt students when necessary including physical guidance, lifting of students as well as the implementation of emergency crisis protocols for physical restraint, maintaining proximity to running students and escorting of students to calm areas within the school.
Support Student’s Behavioral Needs
- Following behavior plans consistently
- Implementation of safety procedures such as physical restraint when necessary, escorting students and implementation of time out room procedures
- Providing feedback to peers for behavioral consistency
Support of Student’s Daily Living Skills
- Tooth brushing
- Hand washing/ face washing
Student Case Management
- Case management of at least 1 student
- Maintenance of student data to within 1 week of current date
- Ensuring case students programs are effectively and efficiently run
- Creation of necessary materials under the direction of the classroom teacher
Qualification Requirements
- Commitment to working with young people with developmental disabilities.
- Experience working with children with developmental disabilities highly recommended.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with staff members and managers.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team player.
- Displays ability to coordinate with all others, contributes to Instructional knowledge and spirit in identifiable and demonstrated ways, helps to resolve classroom conflicts when they arise; conducts oneself in a professional manner at all times.
- Displays the desire to advance skills, contribute positively to projects and takes ownership of tasks and assignments.
- Displays an ability to articulate well in both verbal and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability, with training, to perform appropriate physical restraint as needed.
- Physical restraint techniques.
- Redirect and/or physically support people who may be aggressive using approved techniques. These procedures may include the effective use of emergency procedures including restraint in compliance with State policy and the person’s plan
- Ability to exercise restraint/self/control in potentially volatile situations, including being confronted verbally and/or physically in a threatening or aggressive manner by children receiving support.
- You must be able to kneel; hold, and lift/carry at least 50 lbs from the floor in order to physically assist and/or restrain people as part of their behavior support plan and must also be able to complete required restraint training.
- Ability to quickly respond to health, safety, and emergency situations.
- Maintain vision on a moving object/person
