Job Summary
Plans, administers, evaluates, monitors the development strategy for the Tulsa Area Command Development Department. Works closely with the Area Commander and key personnel to develop and implement annual fundraising goals. Supervises Grants Administrator, Marketing and Development Manager, Special Events Coordinator, Volunteer & Disaster Resource Manager,
Develops and implements a comprehensive program of eMarketing and eFundRaising which seeks to build a base of support using Web Based technology; develops and sustains The Salvation Army’s interactive activities, including the execution of a broad range of interactive campaigns and key Internet projects; gives oversight of the direct mail initiative; identifies new Internet strategies and opportunities for achieving fundraising and visibility raising objectives; manages donor database and donor communications.

Administrative and Financial (55%)
Develops and nurtures a portfolio of donors (Donor Portfolio) and prospective donors including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Creates and implements a specific, individualized, cultivation plan for every donor and prospective donor on the Donor Portfolio with the aim of new and/or increased giving to the mission of The Salvation army.
Communicates regularly and with intention all major gifts donors to keep them informed on what The Salvation Army is doing, the outcomes of their support, and the needs of the organization.
Coordinates cooperatively with the Regional Resource Development Director on donor management.
Maintains an effective working relationship with the Divisional Development personnel by referring leads and sharing information that may enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Area Command fundraising efforts; maintains awareness of Planned Giving Programs to recognize donor prospects.
Maintains up-to-date awareness of the latest fundraising ideas and incorporates the same into the Area Command fundraising plans and strategies.
Prepares information and data for monthly development reports to the Area Commander. Maintains and extends strong and positive relationships with corps officers, donors, and senior staff at all times. Ensures that all interactions both verbal and written are professional, remaining sensitive to individual concerns.
Serves as leader of the Development Team and attends said committee meetings.
Coordinate and oversee Christmas Kettle campaign.
Supervision (20%)
Works directly with the Area Commander to develop and implement annual fundraising goals and objectives for the Development Team.
Supervises donor relations, including supervision of the year-round mail appeals and consultation on mailing schedules and packet preparation; supervises the cultivation of donors for possible increased contributions.
Supervises the work of the Grants Administrator, Marketing and Development Manager, Special Events Coordinator, Volunteer & Disaster Resource Manager, and support personnel and all or any donor services positions to ensure the efficient and productive work flow of this department; holds regular departmental meetings; instructs and trains personnel in proper methods and procedures; plans, schedules, and assigns work; reviews, monitors and inspects work in progress and upon completion; motivates and evaluates employee performance.
Coordinates the website and blog, design layout and content for relevancy and accuracy, consistency and timeliness.
Provides technical support and training to ensure implementation of online opportunities for giving/donating activities.
Provides appropriate technical support and training to Salvation Army units wishing to implement eMarketing & eFundRaising programs.
Responsible for management of donor database and donor communications including tax letters, thank you letters, donor thank you calls, data entry and specific donor requests. Runs essential reports and tracks giving from online, direct mail and white mail, ensuring gifts are properly coded and entered into database.
Planning and Development (15%)
Researches/analyzes the local market to determine appropriate fundraising vehicles and frequency of same necessary to generate maximum level of donations to meet and surpass goal objective.
Develops and coordinates the operation of fundraising appeals (both traditional and online); identifies new and inventive methods of increasing direct mail income working closely with mailing service firms to ensure productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Maintain online communications calendar for eMarketing & eFundRaising, special events and appeals.
Community Relations (5%)
Serves as the primary contact and/or coordinator for all donor requests and donation questions.
Other Responsibilities (5%)
Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge of TSA mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.
Knowledge of the principles/ practices of personnel and business management and supervision.
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns.
Effective communication skills – oral and written. Solid analytical and statistical skills.
Skills in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software.
Skills in project management and ability to multi-task across several projects.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Ability and willingness to prepare verbal and written requests for support from donors.
Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, donors, members of advisory organizations and the community.
Ability to read/interpret policies/procedures, legal documents, requirements to ensure compliance.
Ability to administer budgets and monitor expenditures for compliance with the same.
Ability to manage donor management software.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing including the providing of clear instructions to employees.
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation.
Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of TSA and conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conduct all communication and job duties with highest level of professionalism.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications or a related field, AND five years experience in performing public relations and fundraising functions through all forms of media with experience as a guest speaker, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses
AFP – (Association of Fundraising Professionals) Membership - helpful
Valid State Driver License
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions
Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment.
