Residential House Manager

Residential Program House Manager
The House Manager (HM) is a non-resident position. The HM monitors several units of the Veterans Accession House program, a non-profit organization providing Service Intensive Transitional Housing for Veterans. Residents are primarily 911 and Desert Storm-era Veterans pursuing independent living through education, training, benefits, and employment. The HM rotates time between several program housing site locations. The HM is responsible for “overseeing” daily housing operations, cleaning, general maintenance activities, and housing relations. The HM works with the Field Service Coordinator (FSC) to promote an atmosphere where residents take responsibility for themselves and deal openly with any issues or concerns related to their living situation or housing contract. The House Manager observes resident behaviors, facilitates a healthy living environment (e.g., encourages socialization, participation, and coordinative residential activities), ensures safety, and initiates intervention to resolve disputes. The House Managers engage in informal counseling designed to identify, acknowledge needs, and facilitate communication between the residents, the organization’s administration, and case management staff. The HM is supervised by and reports to the FSC. The HM meets regularly with and takes guidance from the FSC and assists the program Case Managers in their duties to help program residents. They report observations of residents’ behavior and compliance with program rules and discuss house dynamics at weekly staff meetings. The House Manager’s role is critical to successfully managing the organization’s housing operations and is an integral part of the Housing treatment program.
Role as a House Manager
The HM will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Help to maintain compliance with program rules and regulations.
- Encourage residents to maintain a neat and clean home.
- Report to the Field Services Coordinator emergency or serious medical problems.
- Organizes, assigns and monitors the completion of chores and special projects as needed.
- In a severe emergency or imminent danger, call for emergency assistance.
- Notifies the FSC in the event of a severe infraction of the House rules or an incident involving the welfare or safety of any resident.
- Notifies FSC and CMS regarding any resident's relapse and confiscation of contraband.
- Conducts Fire/Safety orientation and performs quarterly drills.
- Review with new residents' house safety procedures, rules, duties, and policies.
- Facilitates monthly community house meetings, encourages open discussions, and records meetings.
- Conducts monthly safety equipment checks and records notes in the Safety Log. Report any unsafe conditions or equipment failures immediately to the FSC.
- House Manager will participate in weekly one-on-one supervision sessions with the FSC and CMS.
- Serves as a driver to transport Veterans to medical appointments and new housing, receive and discharge program participants, and planned activities.
- Assist with the planning and implementing the quarterly program dining out and monthly activities.
- Inspects individual rooms, houses, and grounds for cleanliness.
- Inspect rooms for contraband and confiscate any items violating program policy.
Requirements:
· Associate’s degree or 60 college units from an accredited institution or
· One year of experience in a residential housing program or
· Combination of college units and work experience.
· Certification in alcohol and drug rehabilitation practices desired.
