ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Provide technical oversight on engineered projects assigned to you.
  • Provide drafting and design (CAD) work using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, proficient in both a plus.
  • Per customer order, perform application engineering on a variety of automation equipment.
  • Work with project manager(s), project engineer(s), (if assigned) and the sales team to ensure all required information is obtained for assigned projects.
  • Update general layout drawings and finalize all documentation for project closeout.
  • Provide necessary guidance for designers, and drafters to perform project design work.
  • Check all work performed by mechanical engineers, designers, drafters on projects including part and assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Work with engineering support staff to release drawings to manufacturing and packets to shipping.
  • Be aware of Chantland-MHS current product line & competitor equipment.
  • Responsible for producing equipment models, detailing and assembly drawings.
  • Layout plans, sections and details to specified CAD standards under the direction of others.
  • Write Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to communicate design changes or standardization.
  • Coordinate work with other departments within the organization.
  • Handle issues and questions from the field by reacting quickly.
  • Use and apply Chantland-MHS drafting standards and best practices.
  • Maintain files and records.
  • Occasional travel to construction job sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical design drafting practices.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and solid analytical skills.
  • Solid mechanical design background with the ability to perform design/layout work in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Perform engineering calculations by hand and using software to ensure proper equipment strength and design.
  • Accurate and detail oriented, producing work in a timely manner without errors.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral. Must be able to prepare clear and concise technical documents including ECNs and project reports.
  • Ability to deliver results on time to the highest standards.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills.
  • Strong drive and resilience, action and result oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Successfully work in a fast-paced environment, independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn quickly and a willingness to take on additional workload as needed.
  • Willing to work the hours needed and committed to meeting deadlines.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills.
  • Excellent people skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with other employees, customers, and third-party partners.
  • Possess knowledge of Microsoft Outlook tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year B.S. Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Possesses qualities such as productivity, dependability, resourcefulness, efficiency, and professionalism.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks or transferrable software.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluent user of AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: agriculture, material handling, material blending or the fertilizer industry.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

Works primarily from an office at our Dakota City, IA facility. Travel to other company operations and job sites as needed. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer, printer, plotter, calculator and copy machine.

  • Sit for extended periods of time.

  • To have adequate vision to accommodate frequent viewing of computer screens and written/printed information.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
