CNC Machinist

Job DescriptionJob Description

A CNC machinist, or CNC operator, operates computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to produce parts and components from raw materials like metal or plastic: 

• Maintain equipment: Keep machines and work areas clean and orderly 

• Adhere to safety: Follow safety protocols and maintain safe operations 

• Train operators: Provide training to other operators as needed 

• Program and operate machines: Use technical drawings and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software to program CNC machines 
• Set up and calibrate equipment: Ensure machines are properly calibrated and set up for operation 
• Create parts: Use precision measuring tools to create parts that meet specifications 
• Inspect and test: Perform quality control to ensure parts meet specifications 
• Troubleshoot: Identify and fix issues with parts 

CNC machinists need to be detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and have strong hand-eye coordination. They should also have knowledge of design, mathematics, mechanics, processing, and production.
