Job Title: Toolmaker/Grinding Specialist

Location: Columbia City

Shift: 1st

Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 with full benefits

Job Summary: The Toolmaker/Grinding Specialist is responsible for manufacturing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of precision tools used in our manufacturing processes. This role focuses primarily on operating and maintaining grinding machines to shape and finish tools and components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of grinding techniques, proficiency in operating various grinding equipment, and a keen eye for detail. This position is crucial for ensuring the quality and precision of our manufactured products.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain grinding machines, including surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and tool and cutter grinders.
• Set up and adjust grinding machines to achieve precise dimensions, angles, and finishes according to engineering specifications.
• Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine appropriate grinding methods and tooling requirements.
• Perform precision grinding operations to fabricate or modify tooling components with close tolerances.
• Inspect finished products using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure adherence to specifications.
• Identify and troubleshoot grinding issues, such as excessive wear or irregularities in surface finishes.
• Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance, repairs, and grinding operations performed.
• Follow established safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Continuously improve grinding processes and techniques to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in machining or toolmaking preferred.
• Proven experience as a Toolmaker or Grinding Specialist in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of grinding principles, techniques, and equipment operation.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Familiarity with various grinding machine setups, tooling, and grinding wheel selection.
• Solid understanding of precision measuring instruments and their applications.
• Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and measurements accurately.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and precision.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to adhere to them.
