SUMMARY:

Identify and sketch existing OSP facilities and proposed transfer of facilities to new pole/location and recognize what OSP work needs to be performed to complete the transfer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The OSP Fielder must be capable of securing the necessary field information, record verification, document preparation, data input, records posting; for all Aerial or Buried telecommunications facilities.
  2. Identify, photograph, & document detailed information on required facilities, including cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, & other Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure.
  3. Open hand holes to inspect facilities (substructure conditions, fiber placement, and condition).
  4. Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, & distances from existing/proposed Outside Plant (OSP) facilities to centerlines, property lines, & curb lines.
  5. Need practical experience in previous aerial, buried and underground field note gathering for AT&T.
  6. Use of measuring wheel, Height stick, OCALC stick, Pull Finder, Range finder, etc.
  7. They need to understand how to determine where the ROW is and know how to identify the best route for cable placement when faced with challenges.
  8. Must be able to make recommendations to Customer employees on all findings and needed changes.
  9. Must have a complete understanding of outside plant design principles, work order procedures, telephone industry standards and be in compliance with the latest revisions of any relevant Safety Codes, Electric Codes, Customer practices and procedures, local and governmental jurisdiction and be in accordance with instructions supplied by Customer.
  10. Must have functional knowledge of PC applications and OSP record with good practical experience with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Google Earth and Adobe.
  11. Collect information regarding utility pole identification, inspection, and classification.
  12. Locate and identify existing underground structures in the field.
  13. Interpret documentation and properly describe OSP/ISP telecom industry structures, public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities.
  14. Take pictures of relevant structures and landmarks to assist OSP Engineering.
  15. Document and upload information regarding findings in the field using a GIS technology, preferably ArcGIS or Google Earth
  16. Identify power and communication facilities & ownership on utility poles.
  17. Record bonding, grounding, guying, & anchor information.
  18. Deliver detailed field notes & photographs to the engineering team.
  19. Identify relevant obstructions to fiber placement & provide a proposed mitigation strategy.
  20. Effectively utilize tools like measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, GPS devices, MH/HH hooks, & laser rangefinder.

 

ESSENTIALS FOR THE ROLE:

  1. Must be a dependable self-starter, able to work unsupervised in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
  2. Minimum 2-years experience on OSP fielding on Fiber.
  3. Experience on AT&T OSP fielding activities would be an added advantage.
  4. Should be able to work on every project including ASE, JPA, FTTH, FTTX, FOB, BIC etc

 

QUALIFICATION & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Preferably has experience with measuring tools and a Utility or Construction background.
  3. Ability to take pictures and upload/scan pictures and forms to a specified data drive.
  4. Knowledge of telecom OSP and fielding experience.
  5. Ability to identify existing OSP by type, size, etc.
  6. Knowledge of proper safety practices.
  7. Ability to meet critical due dates.
  8. Current driver’s license.
