Job Summary:
The Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the hospital kitchen, including work areas, equipment, and utensils. This role ensures a safe, efficient, and hygienic kitchen environment, supporting the food service team in providing quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors. The Utility Worker plays a critical part in maintaining a smooth operation by adhering to health and safety standards and ensuring that kitchen tools and spaces are ready for use at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils, including sinks, countertops, stoves, and refrigerators.
  • Properly wash and store dishes, pots, pans, and cooking utensils.
  • Dispose of trash and waste in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, and storage areas in the kitchen and food service areas.
  • Assist in unloading and storing food supplies in the kitchen.
  • Follow all hospital and food safety regulations, including handling food safely and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Assist food service staff by keeping kitchen workstations organized and stocked with clean utensils.
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in good working condition and report any damage or malfunction to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and sanitation techniques.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
  • Prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • The position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in a kitchen environment, which may involve exposure to hot surfaces, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Shift work, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
