GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provides professional nursing care under supervision for patients in the endoscopy center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports directly to the Endoscopy Center Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to an endoscopy center environment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
- Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and procedures to physicians.
- Arranges for patient testing and admissions.
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions.
- Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and procedure results.
- Ensures cleanliness of working environment. Prepares list of medical supplies needed.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic procedures.
- Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and diagnostic procedures.
- Skill in taking vital signs.
- Skill in maintaining records and writing reports.
- Skill in establishing effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- EDUCATION: One year of nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid state license to practice practical nursing. CPR certification.
- EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
