Lead Carpenter

As the Lead Carpenter, you will be responsible for customer satisfaction, material take-offs and orders, jobsite supervision (including protection, cleanliness, and safety), carpentry labor, supervising subcontractors, inspections, and paperwork.
*This position will be required to travel for 2-3 weeks at a time.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure company and customer satisfaction through professional appearance, expert workmanship and polite communication.
- Attend all company/client meetings approved by the Project Manager/Site Super.
- Actively participate in both pre-construction conference and pre-completion walk through with client and/or Project Manager.
- Create an anticipated project schedule (critical path) in advance of project commencement, adjust schedule as needed based on production realities. Advise subcontractors of proposed schedule (if required by PM/Site Super). Verify and confirm material lead times and purchase orders as needed to maintain an efficient schedule.
- On a daily basis, inform the Project Manager/Site Super of the progress of the project, including any customer concerns, problems, delays, etc.
- Supervise the activities of the company’s field carpenters and/or independent subcontractors, which include oral and written communication as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe job site at all times. Ensure that the crew works in a safe manner, taking all reasonable precautions.
- Be responsible for the efficient and profitable use of the company’s time, manpower and materials on each project.
- Responsible for tracking the progress and profitability of the projects under his or her supervision and reporting to the Project Manager/Site Super.
- Maintain an operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, equipment, and vehicles to perform specific activities assigned Project Manager/Site Super.
- Attend seminars and shows to obtain new product knowledge and new installation procedures (as required).
- Seek additional responsibility and guidance from company management employees as needed to enhance existing skills, learn new skills, and create potential for advancement within the company.
- Coordinate placement of job site sign at the start of a job and remove upon completion of job.
- Perform all carpentry labor and assign tasks to carpenters, coworkers, and helpers. Ensure work being performed is done in the most efficient manner.
- Coordinate in conjunction with the office all subcontractors in a knowledgeable manner.
- Anticipate ongoing needed materials, supplies and drawings well in advance.
- Create material lists and arrange for their delivery/pickup in will-call; be sure to check material deliveries for accuracy in quantity and measurement, as well as for any quality problems or damage.
- Track & enter all jobsite activities in Project Management software.
- Accurately detail job details on timesheet; ensure all other employees do the same.
- Review all customer change orders with the PM/Site Super. They will calculate price; then change order to be signed by customer prior to work being completed.
- Walk through job site with Project Manager and/or client on jobs that need attention to make sure all items are completed. Compare plans and contract specs as an additional verification.
- Coordinate with the office, client, or owner rep to schedule all necessary inspections with the building department.
- As the job nears completion, create a punch-list of any outstanding items for Project Manager.
- Leave the job neat and clean, removing all tools, garbage cans and jobsite sign(s).
- Actively participate in weekly production meeting with all team members.
- During rain periods, report to the jobsite with Carpenter's helper and cover exposed area of house with tarp/plastic cover; minimizing any possibility of water entering the home.
- Gather receipts of expenses and categorize them accordingly so they can get billed correctly.
- Coordinate daily with Safety Coordinator to ensure safety meetings and requirements are held to OSHA's standards, documented, and stored.
Knowledge and understanding of:
- OSHA regulations
- IBC Building codes
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years experience as a Lead Carpenter or management experience
- Timber Frame experience is a plus
- Versatile in all phases of construction
Required to:
- Lead field crew
- Effectively communicate (orally and in writing), with good comprehension
- Coach and teach crew members
- Apply problem solving and conflict resolution
- Organize and delegate work
- Utilize Microsoft Office programs, BuilderTrend, Openspace, Bluebeam
