Location: South Valley 2 Suicide Prevention – Possible Hybrid or Remote Option after 90 Days

Reports to:  Crisis and Access Line Program Manager

Status: Full-time or Part-time. Night Shift:  11:00 pm – 7:30 am

FLSA: Exempt

Pay Range: $87,360.00 to $98,670.00/year

Position Summary

The CRISIS Programs Associate Clinician is dedicated exclusively to our after-hours support system, providing essential clinical assistance during critical times when our community needs it most. This position involves responding to requests for consultation from our CRISIS program staff, including 988 Suicide Prevention, Yolo County Crisis and Access Line, and Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health, solely during the overnight and weekend shifts.

In this clinical role, you will offer guidance and expertise to staff navigating moderate to high-risk cases and provide crisis intervention, as necessary. Your clinical judgment and extensive experience will be vital in supporting high-risk suicidal callers and individuals in crisis. Your collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams will ensure that patients receive immediate and effective care during critical after-hours periods, addressing their urgent behavioral health needs.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Current Associate California Board of Behavioral Sciences BBS Registration is required. ACSW, AMFT, or APCC.
  • Must meet Medi-Cal requirements for billable providers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills; sound clinical judgment.
  • Experience in a variety of clinical assessments, treatment planning, and counseling issues, including suicide risk, chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, and trauma-informed care preferred;
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Experience providing telehealth and rendering Medi-Cal benefits, preferred.
  • Experience with brief interventions, including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy preferred; 
  • Successful completion of all crisis center and mobile crisis services benefit training and crisis line counselor exam with passing score and/or final evaluation before being released to work alone.
  • Ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and adherence to national standards, training, and practices in the field of crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality care for people who have been underserved and sensitivity when working with a variety of people from low-income populations with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins, including people who have substance abuse disorders, HIV, physiological impairments, disabilities, and unhoused community members.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, using Zoom and Teams, and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
  • Skilled in the use of technology, including multiple line telephones and Microsoft 365.  Experience with electronic health records is a plus.
  • Compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to the position, including HIPAA, sexual harassment, Mandated Reporting, Scope of Practice, OSHA, etc.
  • Ability to strictly adhere to the telecommuting agreement, if available.
  • Fluency in additional languages is desirable.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be available to work the night shift of 11:00 pm – 7:30 am.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking, and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Respond to Access and Crisis Line calls, including 988 Suicide Prevention, providing consultation and support to at-risk callers and staff.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and offer crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support to individuals in need, ensuring a compassionate and non-judgmental approach.
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral health triage via telephone or telehealth as needed.
  • Adhere to national standards in assessing suicide risk and developing actionable safety plans, utilizing evidence-based assessment protocols.
  • Offer support in managing high-needs callers and patients with appropriate interventions, supporting crisis counselors and staff throughout the process.
  • Evaluate and refer individuals to Emergency Services when necessary, ensuring continuity of care with appropriate follow-up.
  • Uphold ethical standards in all interactions, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, while recognizing and addressing potential biases.
  • Accurately document clinical assessments, medical necessity, and progress notes in compliance with organizational policies and funder requirements.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance care connections to post-crisis programs and services, fostering a collaborative approach.
  • Utilize established protocols to dispatch community mobile crisis teams as required.
  • Implement Motivational Interviewing and brief interventions for individuals facing substance use challenges.
  • Maintain accurate data collection and reporting records according to regulatory policies and billing standards.
  • Engage in regular consultations with program leaders to promote a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach.
  • Attend Clinical Supervision and work in partnership with Supervising Clinician, Directors, and Program Managers. 
  • Provide follow-up calls and support as clinically indicated, ensuring a comprehensive care experience.
  • Adhere to all Mandated Reporter requirements and maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Enjoy a flexible 60/40 hybrid work schedule or remote assignment (if applicable) and engage in weekly check-ins to update your supervisor on client interactions and duties.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel.  The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.   The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

 

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.  The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
