Dearman Systems is seeking a software engineer (hardware interfaces) to learn our process control software, assist in implementations of the software for clients, troubleshoot issues and device connections, and implement new features as needed.

Dearman’s process control enables operators to control field hardware devices in an orchestrated manner (from a single system) and utilize data from these devices for practical business functions (reporting, invoicing, inventory management, etc). Process control is the heart of any terminal automation system and the quality of this software code dictates the reliability of the entire system.

Must be authorized to work in the US as Dearman is unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

This role is not remote. Relocation to Tucson is required.

About The Role

You will learn our current process control system — working closely with clients during implementations and issue resolution. This requires you to become an expert in device integration, including presets, meters, weight scales, and PLCs (or be currently familiar and become an expert on the job). 

This role is in the office in Tucson, AZ. 2 remote work days per week are allowed to start with more available with increased tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn our current process control system and become an independent expert

  • Support clients during issue resolution, keeping calm under pressure and difficult circumstances

  • Contribute to documentation

  • Become an expert on device integration, connections, and communication protocols

  • Become an expert in API (American Petroleum Institute) Standards and Certification requirements. Gain industry knowledge of the oil and gas industry

  • Become an expert in Acculoads, Microloads, Multiloads, and truck weight scales

  • Become an expert in the Dearman Data Entry Unit (DEU) gate hardware device

  • Contribute to the latest version of our process control code base. Continue to provide enhancements and upgrades over time

Qualifications:

  • C++ experience (Required)

  • Proficiency in ASP.NET and C# using the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. If you are highly skilled in C++ and willing to learn C#, that is ok

  • Relational database experience, MS SQL Server (Required)

  • Git source control system (Required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline or related work experience

  • Creative problem solving and extreme attention to detail

  • Knowledge of Modbus and communication via serial and TCP/IP; data acquisition and control

  • Visual Basic experience is nice to have (for supporting/converting legacy systems)

  • Visual Studio 6 experience is nice to have (for supporting/converting legacy systems)

  • Knowledge of Acculoads, Multiloads, PLCs is a plus

  • Sequential state logic design
