Tool Die Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Die Engineer to join our operations team. In this role, you will drive strategic development and lead initiatives that enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation in our manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in tooling, process optimization, and team mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of departmental strategic goals and identify measurable objectives.
  • Assist the Program Launch team with new tool tryouts and scheduled activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve throughput and process efficiency.
  • Identify root causes of process issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and recommend the incorporation of new technologies to ensure product feasibility, quoted rates, and plant performance metrics.
  • Lead the design, development, and testing of die methods, materials, and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and address die concerns in collaboration with the Tool & Die team.
  • Interface with customers, contractors, and die build shops as needed.
  • Establish and document proper processing parameters and support audits.
  • Drive cost reduction projects and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Provide training and mentorship on die principles and practices to leaders and team members.
  • Communicate material concerns to the Materials department (e.g., circle grid, certifications).
  • Support process improvement initiatives across the organization.
  • Maintain and update PFMEA and process flow diagrams.
  • Lead engineering change orders (ECOs) and communicate with relevant departments.
  • Utilize MTBF/MTTR to assess equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Participate in quoting processes and die reviews.
  • Enhance and optimize Single Point Management (SPM) improvements.
  • Oversee costs related to poor-quality products (CoPQ) and ensure compliance with quality standards through customer audits.
  • Act as a resource for problem-solving and lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D reports).
  • Support the organization in achieving customer awards and maintaining quality certifications (e.g., TS 16949, ISO 14001).
  • Uphold OSHA safety standards and ensure team compliance with PPE requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of technical, hands-on experience in engineering and building dies.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., UG, Catia, AutoCAD).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for workflow optimization.
  • Proven expertise in lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Knowledge of standard quality practices and continuous improvement.
  • Background in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and solve complex problems.
