The Summer Day Program Coordinator is a temporary full time position that provides for the
general care of at-risk youth during the summer months of June-August. This person works to develop and
implement a comprehensive Summer Day Program for residents involving recreation, culture, fun, learning and
civic engagement.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Implement recreational programs and activities:
o Work with Program Director/Manager and senior staff to develop summer day program, which
includes setting up daily activities such as recreational trips, cultural opportunities, community
service projects and educational activities.
o Provide encouragement to residents to participate in recreational, educational and community
service activities.
o Lead recreational, educational and community service activities.
Work with youth in care, including:
o Teaching recreation skills.
o Helping with and teaching life skills.
o Teaching communication skills.
o Assisting with relationship building skills.
o Providing transportation of residents.
o Participating in staff meetings when necessary.
Meeting individual client needs:
o Providing appropriate and individual attention to youth in care.
o Doing informal counseling.
o Advocating for needs of youth.
Monitor individual behavior of youth in care:
o Provide praise and reward for positive behavior.
o Do intervention or confrontation of negative or destructive behaviors.
o Give consequences.
o Teach and model appropriate behaviors.
o Record behavioral data.
o Stay abreast of all information in logs.
o Provide input to individual treatment plans.
o Write up all incidents.
o Write reports as necessary, required or requested.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to accept supervision.
Work within a team approach to treatment.
Be available to have relationships with youth in care.
Communicate clearly, precisely and directly.
Provide consistency and structure.
Be a positive role model.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Sound moral character.
Experience working with troubled youth in a paid or volunteer setting.
Knowledge of adolescent development.
Talents for supervising and working with young people.
Have a valid Drivers License
Be able to pass background checks including, Child Protective Services, Criminal and Department of
Motor Vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 25 lbs. as needed.
Ability to climb stairs as needed.
